This 2016 Porsche Cayman GTS (981) has been transformed into a no-expense-spared, dedicated track car. The mid-mounted naturally-aspirated 3.4-litre flat-six-cylinder engine produces 254kW (354hp). Power is supplied to the rear wheels through a seven-speed PDK dual-clutch automatic transmission. The odometer currently displays 27,979km. The Porsche Cayman has long held the unenviable position within the Porsche line-up as the “poor man’s 911”. With similar styling to the 911 and a smaller engine the Cayman always stood in the shadow of its better-known sibling. However, this all changed when Porsche revealed the third-generation 981 Cayman.

Combining the best attributes of the then-current 991 911 and the 918 Spyder hypercar, the 981 Cayman styling looked like a proper Porsche and its 3.4-litre engine was lifted straight from the 911 range. The GTS variant upped the anté further with altered front and rear styling, a new sports exhaust system, updated 20-inch wheels, and bi-xenon headlights. It effectively bridged the gap between the regular Cayman range and the all-out track-focused Cayman GT4. The GTS variants are often considered the smart buy of any Porsche model thanks to the fully-loaded specification and unique styling which sets them apart from regular alternatives. This Cayman GTS is painted in Carmine Red and features a black leather and Alcantara interior. It is said to boast key options available on a GTS including the Sport Chrono package.

It also features GT4 parts such as the front bar, side intakes, and an adjustable rear spoiler. Inside, the vehicle is fitted with a half roll cage, strut brace, and a five-point harness. The factory car’s sports suspension is now fully adjustable with coilovers. The car sits on 18-inch APEX forged wheels with new semi-slick Yokohama A050 tires. Built new by Porsche in Zuffenhausen, Germany in May 2016 and delivered new through Porsche Centre Doncaster, this Cayman’s history is well documented. After its accident the car was prepared for sprint racing by Fitzgerald Motorsport as the vehicle can no longer be used on public roads due to its write-off status. It now specifies braided brake lines, racing brake fluid, DBA 5000 series rotors, Project Mu Club Racer brake pads, and a K&N air filter.

The catalytic converter was removed and a set of extractors accentuate the car’s flat-six sound. The car has been tuned by Underground Performance. Exterior condition appears in decent order, though less attention is paid to this car’s external presentation considering its track car nature. Carmine Red paintwork holds nice light and reflections and no major paint defects are observed, though there are several points of stone chipping and chips in the finish. Notably, the car shows paint chips in the front bar, bonnet, underneath the driver’s door handle, on the right-side skirt, and on a brake caliper. All four wheels present without kerb rash and the Yokohama tyres are near-new. The interior presentation is excellent.

The black leather and Alcantara trims show minimal wear and tear and no stains are seen on either fabric. Sports seats display with no creasing or sagging and the racing harness has been properly installed. All functions of the factory infotainment system operate as normal and instrumentation shows no wear marks. All original books and service history will be supplied.
