This 2002 Porsche 911 (996) GT3 Cup is a maintained example of a preeminent series race car, complete in clean condition with a collection of spare parts. Under rear decklid lies a naturally-aspirated 3.6-litre inline-six-cylinder engine which outputs 280kW and 380Nm. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. There are few one-make racing series which are as well-known as the Porsche GT3 Cup. With drivers often coming from entry-level, everyone is looking to make a name for themselves and racers are keen to cut their teeth using a rock-solid racing base like a Porsche Cup Car.

The 996-generation in particular is now enjoying a reprisal to widespread acclaim, years after being written off as the unloved 911 iteration. This 2002 racer is an update car which utilises the more appealing “fried egg” headlights in addition to a more powerful engine. The 911 GT3 Cup is of course the race version which influences the famed 911 GT3 road car, though with a no-holds-barred approach which is keenly explored on an open race track. Painted in a clean white finish ready for its next owner to apply their own bespoke livery (or even to appreciate in “factory fresh” white) this 911 GT3 Cup car is a metaphorical – or physical – blank canvas. Inside, the cabin is stripped of all unnecessary items in the pursuit of the lightest weight possible.

The driver sits in a Sparco race seat with a Schroth race harness and grips a Momo suede steering wheel. The car currently adorns a blue Michelin window banner in addition to fresh windscreen tear-aways, while the rear tail-lights have been switched to aftermarket units. The car rides on a set of three-piece BBS alloy wheels wrapped in Michelin race tyres. Manufactured new by Porsche in Zuffenhausen, Germany and delivered new to its first owner in Australia, this 996 GT3 Cup is described as being in great condition. It has most recently been run by Ashley Seward Motorsport out of Dandenong, Victoria.

Recent new additions to the car include a new Sachs Cup Car clutch, flywheel, and hydraulic release assembly, plus new Motion Control Suspension. The engine was last rebuilt by Flatsix. Exterior condition is in good order for a car which has seen track use. Rare for a race car is the unmarked front bar which has escaped stone chip damage, while the rest of the white paintwork displays similarly clean. The front splitter contains scrape and chip damage, the rear bar shows scuff damaging on the left-hand side, and the right-hand side skirt has subtle marks.

Otherwise, this car’s presentation is remarkably strong. All four BBS wheels show signs of wear and tear. Inside the cabin it’s obvious this car has been used in anger. The door cards display scratches, the roll cage is scuffed, and touch points have all worn down over time. That said, the seat presents in good condition without tears, the harness is in good order, and the MoTeC ECU functions as intended.

Those expecting an untouched race car will need to look elsewhere but for racers who appreciate a car which has proven itself and shows light battle scars, this GT3 Cup represents a great buying opportunity. This car will come with three sets of wheels including one set of new slick tyres.
