This 1999 Subaru Impreza WRX STI is a cult classic JDM icon which presents in honest condition and sports a desirable colour combination. It is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder ‘boxer’ engine which outputs 206kW and 339Nm. Power is sent to all four wheels through a five-speed manual gearbox. The odometer of this vehicle currently displays 134,616km. If the Subaru Impreza WRX STI is one of the most iconic rally cars of all time, the late-build first-generation cars have to be the most desirable variants. The Subaru Impreza WRX STI earned notoriety throughout the 1990s for its rally prowess, transforming a humble everyday sedan into an all-weather, all-wheel-drive performance car.

Early WRX STIs are respected for their immense point-to-point agility and were the beneficiaries of continual year-on-year improvement. Subaru’s competition partner Prodrive continually fed-through enhancements and updates from the rally car to ensure the WRX STI was sharp against road car rivals such as the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution. Various derivatives were available. Two-door STIs are the most desirable, but Version 5 sedans are not far behind in terms of interest and investment. Late 1990s WRX STIs have appreciated markedly in price over the last five years, though four-door variants still represent good buying opportunities. Finished in Dark Grey over a grey interior with red accents, this WRX STI’s colour combination is period perfect.

There are some light aftermarket modifications made to this car including an Invidia exhaust, HKS turbo timer and a blow-off valve. It also specifies a Kenwood head unit in place of the original radio. The car rides on a set of 16-inch gold alloy wheels wrapped in Yokohama Ice Guard winter tyres. This car was manufactured in Japan and delivered new within its home market. The current owner is understood to be the second owner of the car since it was relocated to Australia in 2022 – no information about prior ownership or servicing is available. According to the owner, the car was looked over for a pink slip in May 2024 with no reports of mechanical issues.

The current owner purchased the vehicle just over a year ago. The exterior presentation of this WRX STI displays in good order. The grey paintwork still glosses nicely in the sunlight, though various points of stone chipping and road rash are identified on the front end. Other minor marks of wear and tear appear to be commensurate with this car’s odometer and age. There is no kerb rash damage on the alloy wheels. Inside the cabin, this WRX STI appears in good order.

The seats retain their original bucketed shapes, though wear and tear now sees the STI logo worn on both backrests. The owner notes one small burn mark on the driver’s seat, some colour fade on the seat inserts, and minor cracking in driver’s side arm rest. The top of the aerial is missing and the head unit is non-functional (wiring in the glovebox). Some yellowing is noted in the headlining, though carpeting/floor mats show without obvious wear and tear. As per Trading Garage Terms and Conditions, although Trading Garage has completed the following checks bidders must satisfy themselves to the accuracy of the description and do any research they feel necessary before bidding. All listings are sold in Australian dollars.
