This 1999 Porsche (986) Boxster is the build #1 Duck and Whale example, complete with extensive maintenance and a documented service history. It is powered by a 2.5-litre six-cylinder engine outputting 150kW/260Nm to the rear wheels. This car is fitted with a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer currently displays 161,449km. The Porsche Boxster is often written off as the entry-level offering in the Porsche showroom, but the first-generation Boxster arguably saved the German manufacturer from financial ruin. Porsche was facing a takeover through the 1990s, but smart product planners diversified the model line-up to include the Boxster roadster, featuring plenty of shared parts from its 911 bigger brother. Since its launch, the Boxster has consistently been one of the best bang-for-buck driving experiences, combining Porsche’s famed dynamics with a desirable top-down body style.

Duck and Whale is a Porsche enthusiast magazine that created a limited number of unique Boxster builds – this is the first build example, incorporating period design elements. However, it is unashamedly built to be used with several performance enhancements. This Porsche Boxster is painted in silver metallic and features a black soft-top cloth roof. The interior is upholstered with red leather and black Alcantara. The bonnet features a Glocker Porsche-inspired stripe and the doors show a blocky black stripe displaying the project’s name. Duck and Whale enhancements include BC Racing coilovers, Momo steering wheel, RS-style door panels with red pulls, and a Manzo performance stainless steel exhaust. The car rides on a set of 18-inch Keskin KT2 Cup wheels wrapped in Kumho tyres.

Delivered new to Australia through Porsche Centre Parramatta, this Boxster has been given a new lease on life thanks to PR Technology, Eastcoast Trimshop and Auto Grafik. The last major service was completed by PR Technology which included a suspension alignment and corner balancing. The car has been fitted with new sway bar links, new disc brakes and pads, a new water pump, new engine mounts, and new ignition coils and spark plugs. Importantly, the IMS bearing issue plaguing early Porsche Boxsters has been sorted on this car. The exterior condition of this Boxster shows in brilliant order. No swirl marks are noted in the silver paintwork, which continues to shine in the light. The soft-top roof appears without scuff marks and pulls taut over the cabin.

Its wheels show no obvious marks of kerb rash. Inside the cabin, this Boxster appears in good order. The car has undergone a retrimming with bright red leather matched by red floor mats. The Alcantara inserts appear in good condition. All aspects display without stains or scuffing and the seats retain their original bucket shape. Some light scratch marks are noted on the side sills. The car’s head unit has been fitted with digital radio capability.

This car will come with extensive supporting receipts and documentation, as well as two keys.
