This 1999 BMW (E39) M5 is an Australian-delivered car that appears in OEM+ condition thanks to some tidy modifications. It is powered by a 4.9-litre ‘S62’ V8 engine that produces 294kW and 500Nm. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission. The odometer of this car displays 233,930km. As far as fast BMWs go, the E39 M5 is a high watermark for BMW M. Such was its dynamic excellence that other manufacturers used the E39 M5 as a benchmark to create their own sports sedans.

The car was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in 1998 to widespread acclaim, with media and enthusiasts praising the M5’s move to a V8 engine. The fundamentals of the E39 are simple: a large 4.9-litre V8 engine, a six-speed manual transmission, and rear-wheel drive. Very few electronic driver aids dampen the driving experience too. There was very little visual drama with the E39 M5, though BMW fans appreciate the Q-car nature that renders it a ‘wolf in sheep’s clothing’. Today, the E39 M5 is appreciated as one of the marque’s best and values are expected to climb in the years to come.

This car is painted in Carbon Black metallic and features black and grey two-tone upholstery inside the cabin. Several aftermarket modifications improve this car’s aesthetic and mechanical standings. These include Bilstein coilover suspension, a Brembo big brake kit, a replacement touchscreen, carbon-fibre-style interior trims, an Eisenmann muffler, AC Schnitzer front spoiler and rear diffuser, and a set of 19-inch DPE wheels. This car has Michelin Pilot Sport tyres fitted. Built in Munich, Germany in May 1999 and delivered new to Australia in August 1999, this E39 M5 has had some major service items tended to over the past five years. Most servicing over the last five years have been performed with BMW specialist Southern BM in Melbourne.

The last maintenance occurred in November 2023. The exterior presentation of this M5 appears in very good condition. The Carbon Black metallic paintwork shows in great order with no points of hologramming. No scratches or swirl marks are seen in the finish either. The front splitter has taken some impact damage and scuffs are seen on the underside. The four wheels appear without kerb rash damage.

Interior-wise, this E39 M5 has generally held up well over its lifetime. The two front seats retain a good shape without deformation and the leather hasn’t noticeably faded. There are general signs of wear and tear around the gear shifter, door handles, and on the steering wheel leather. The rear seat base has been scuffed and contains scratch marks. The carpets and floor mats appear without stains. All accompanying documentation including service booklets, original manuals, and service invoices will be provided with this car.
