This 1998 Porsche (996) 911 Carrera is an Australian-delivered example which presents in unmodified condition and has had extensive preventive maitenance carried out. It is powered by a naturally-aspirated 3.4-litre flat-six-cylinder engine which outputs 221kW (296hp) to the rear wheels. This engine is mated to a five-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. The odometer of this car currently displays 169,883km. At the turn of the new millennium Porsche faced a dire financial position and had reached a technical ceiling on its iconic air-cooled flat-six engine. These two impasses forced the German manufacturer to think differently about the replacement for the 993-generation 911.

The 996 made its debut in 1998 complete with a comprehensive list of improvements over its predecessor and a new water-cooled engine. Because the 996 also shared development costs and a production line with the Boxster model, this allowed Porsche to get back into the black shortly after their debuts. The 996-generation 911 hasn’t always enjoyed success on the used market and is typically one of the most affordable 911s. But it is now returning to the limelight and prices are tipped to rise as a result. Later examples are more desirable making this early-build a great buying opportunity. Finished on the outside in the metallic black and upholstered with grey-coloured leather, this 911’s specification has strong appeal.

This 996 is an early example with notable “runny egg” headlights. It has been kept in stock condition throughout its life. Standard equipment includes a sunroof, climate control, leather shift knob and steering wheel, power windows, and remote locking. The car rides on a set of 18-inch “Turbo Twist” alloy wheels which come wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres. This 911 was manufactured in Zuffenhausen, Germany and delivered new in Sydney, Australia. The current owner is believed to be the fourth overall, after purchasing the vehicle out of Sydney seven months ago.

Since that time, all service work has been completed by Euro Tune on the Gold Coast. Euro Tune addressed the common IMS bearing failure, fitted new brake pads, new engine mounts, new water pump, new sway bars, fitted a genuine engine sump, and new Michelin rear tyres. Outside, this 911 shows in fair order for its age and mileage. The metallic black paintwork still reflects sunlight in select areas, though suffers from heavy swirl marking and holograms. This could be improved with a thorough detail and polish. A few scratches are noted on the rear bar and bonnet.

The owner points out a small dent on the driver’s side door. There are small kerb rash marks identified on the wheels. Inside, this 911 presents in good condition. The grey-leather upholstery shows no undue marks or tears, while the dark grey carpeting is largely unstained. Leather on the steering wheel is beginning to noticeably wear and the owner suggests the driver’s side vanity mirror needs replacing. Seals around the passenger-side rear quarter window are due for replacement.

All accompanying documentation and receipts will be supplied with this 911. It only comes with a single set of keys.
