Introduced in 1989, the E31 8 Series was developed as BMW’s flagship grand touring coupé and sat above the contemporary 6 Series in the company’s model range. Its low roofline, pillarless side glass, pop up headlights and long bonnet gave the model a distinctive profile, while its construction incorporated extensive electronic control systems and a multi link rear suspension arrangement. The 840Ci joined the range as the V8 powered alternative to the twelve cylinder 850 models, combining the E31’s four seat coupé body with BMW’s M60 engine. Production of the E31 continued until 1999, with the model remaining one of BMW’s most recognisable designs from the period.

Finished in metallic silver over a black leather interior, this example is fitted with silver multispoke BMW alloy wheels and retains the E31’s characteristic frameless side glass and pop up headlights. The cabin features timber trim across the dashboard, centre console and doors, electrically adjustable front seats, automatic climate control and an electric sunroof.
