This 1991 Toyota Celica GT-Four is a rare unmodified Japanese modern classic which has had just one owner since new. Under the bonnet is a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine which outputs 149kW/275Nm to all four wheels. This car features a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer currently displays 205,640km. As a true road-going homologation special, the Toyota Celica GT-Four is most famously associated with the World Rally Championship. It came in three generations spanning 1986 to 1999, though second-generation cars (designated ST185) are uniquely sought-after for their pop-up headlights and reputation as Toyota’s most successful rally car.

It was also the first generation to be available locally in Australia. Key to its success was a full-time four-wheel-drive system and Torsen differential which split torque 50:50 equally to the front and rear wheels. Additionally, Toyota was the first Japanese manufacturer to achieve success on the rally stage with this car, as the category was previously dominated by European car makers. The Australian-delivered Celica GT-Fours were stripped-back of many luxuries, though Australia got a healthy allocation of units. While cars have previously been affordable on the open market, the Celica GT-Four is fast-becoming a desirable classic today and good examples fetch big money. This car is painted red over a grey cloth-upholstered interior.

As evidenced through photos, this car is extremely original, displayed through the original registration and dealer number plate surrounds. There are no obvious aftermarket modifications made to this car, which keeps its as-delivered specification (including original radio). The side profile still sports the original “Turbo 4WD” script. It currently rides on a set of 16-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Falken tyres. Built in Japan in June 1990, this car was delivered new through Pitstop Toyota, St Kilda. It has had just one owner since new, a Melbourne local who serviced it with a variety of official Toyota dealerships.

The seller states the vehicle has had some minor rectification works to the body, but it’s overall very original. Recent maintenance was carried out with Blood Toyota in August 2022. There are no current mechanical faults. Exterior condition of this Celica is very clean throughout. Paintwork displays in excellent order and no overt signs of marks or damage are seen. Some of the paint’s lustre and shine could be brought back with a polish, however the paint does appear solid.

Light weathering fade can be observed on some plastics such as the front reflector. Wheels show some small kerb rash consistent with use, though the tyres retain a deep tread depth. Inside the cabin this car presents similarly clean. The fabric upholstery doesn’t sag or fray in any area, while the carpeting is clear of staining. Plastics of the dash and door cards show no obvious signs of wear and tear. The headlining also presents well for the car’s age and mileage.

Some scuffing and scratching is identified on the seat backs. This car will come with a suite of original documentation and manuals, while service receipts and two keys are also included.
