This 1989 Jaguar XJS V12 Convertible is a well-presented example of a British icon, now in complete condition after undergoing a multi-year restoration. Under its long bonnet sits a naturally-aspirated 5.3-litre V12 engine that produces 220kW (295hp). This power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission. The odometer currently shows 133,470km. There are few other 1980s-era luxury cars that have the presence of a Jaguar XJS – particularly the gorgeous convertible version. The Jaguar XJS is a high-end grand tourer produced by Jaguar from 1975 until 1996, with three distinct iterations across its 20-year production run. There were also varying engines under the bonnet, though V12 versions remain the most desirable.

This car is a pre-facelift HE example. Its streamlined design notably features eye-catching, elongated styling with unique rear buttresses behind the rear window. It was one of the most aerodynamic silhouettes of its time thanks to respected designer Malcolm Sayer. Its aerodynamic attributes were noticed by several racing teams, including Tom Walkinshaw Racing, which entered the XJS into various motorsport categories. Locally, the car competed in Group A racing during the category’s reign in Australia. This convertible is painted white and features a Doeskin leather-upholstered cabin. The exterior is highlighted by lashings of chrome trim and the cabin specifies burr walnut trim inlays.

Its roof is covered by black soft-top fabric. There are no noted aftermarket modifications made to this car. It rides on a set of 15-inch Jaguar wheels wrapped in Kumho tyres. Manufactured by Jaguar in Coventry, England and delivered new to Melbourne, Australia in June 1989, this Jaguar comes with a host of supporting documentation to verify its history. It has been with the current owner for the last 10 years, undergoing a multi-year restoration addressing various mechanical and cosmetic issues. Since then, it has sat as part of a car collection. The restoration covered rust removal and sand blasting, a respray, reupholstered Connolly leather, rebuilt three-core radiator, extra sound deadening, and a new alarm system was fitted.

The restoration did not fix the air-conditioning. In terms of exterior presentation, this XJS presents remarkably well for its age. White paintwork glosses nicely in the sun and no swirl marks are identified in the finish. Similarly, its subtle pinstriping appears in good order. Light scuffs are noted on the right-hand side front bumper, plus stone chip peppering marks are noted around the grille area. Other slight scuffs are noted on the bumpers and lower chin splitter. Its fabric roof is beginning to age and show discolouration.

The wheels appear to show some flaking paint and light kerb rash. Inside, this car’s reupholstered interior presents in good condition. The cream leather holds its original shape and no scuffs or tears are seen in the fabric. Some scratch marks are noted on trims around the ignition barrel. Dash presentation and woodgrain inserts show no overt marks of wear or cracking. Carpeting and floor mats appear without stains. This car will come with all original documentation, service records, and restoration receipts.
