This 1989 Alfa Romeo 75 T Spark is an Australian-delivered car presented in unmodified condition with a clean colour combination. It is powered by a naturally-aspirated 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine which develops 109kW (148hp). Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. The odometer currently displays 121,572km. Designed at a time when Alfa Romeo had little money for new-car development, the 75 was launched on Alfa Romeo’s 75th anniversary and boasted a near-perfect weight distribution from front to rear.
Despite being designed as economical transport for a family, Alfa Romeo couldn’t help but engineer sporting characteristics into the 75. It used a transaxle gearbox integrated with a rear limited-slip differential for engaging dynamics and the later Twin Spark engines turned the 75 into a capable sports sedan. The all-alloy, twin-cam engine is a delight to rev out and the 50:50 weight distribution turned the car into a true corner carver – especially with the expensive de Dion tube rear suspension. Many Alfa 75s have been parted out for their prized engines, but the Twin Spark-equipped 75 is a special thing and complete examples are particularly sought-after on the used market. Painted in Rosso Alfa on the outside and upholstered with grey cloth inside the cabin, this Alfa’s specification is sure to appeal to all.
The side profile is accented by a strip of grey trim. It is an unmodified example with no aftermarket additions aside from a Sony head unit. The car rides on a set of 15-inch Alfa wheels wrapped in Diamondback tyres. Manufactured by Alfa Romeo in March 1989 and delivered new to Australia in December 1989, this Alfa 75 still retains original documentation. The current owner says it has been stored for many years with an Alfa Romeo collector.
Recent servicing has been with Maranello Pursang Motors in Brunswick, VIC. It had a full engine rebuild in October 2018. The owner notes the heater fan is not working and the right-hand rear window intermittently works. On the outside, this Alfa Romeo 75 presents in honest condition. The Rosso Alfa paintwork shows decent gloss, though nicks and marks are seen over the bodywork.
The car has been repainted in certain areas and varying shades of red are noted. Parking dings are seen on the front and rear bumpers and stone chips are obvious around the front apron. The exterior plastic trim appears weathered around the door handles. The cabin is presented in largely good order, though elements of wear and tear are seen around the dashboard and instrumentation. The seats hold a good, original shape, but some staining is identified on the driver’s seat.
The carpeting beneath the floor mats is not in good condition, while the headlining shows some stains. Door panels show some stress marks on the arm rests. All accompanying documentation – including original manuals – will be provided with this car’s sale.
