This 1986 Holden Calais Turbo features extensive mechanical upgrades undertaken by Rajab Racing. Its turbocharged inline-six engine is paired with an R33 five-speed manual gearbox, which the seller advises replaced the previous MX7 transmission. The odometer currently indicates 192,058 km.

Introduced in 1986, the VL series brought Nissan-sourced six-cylinder power to Holden’s Commodore and Calais range. The Calais combined the new drivetrain with additional comfort equipment and distinctive styling, including partially concealed headlights. The turbocharged variant added a performance option to the range.

Finished in red with contrasting gold lower bodywork, this example features Holden alloy wheels, a sunroof and a front-mounted intercooler. The cabin combines beige cloth upholstery with a floor-mounted manual gear lever, an aftermarket steering wheel and an upgraded audio head unit. The seller identifies the car as a Series I example fitted with a Series II interior by a previous owner.

During the current ownership for approximately two years, the car was sent to Rajab Racing for an engine build, servicing and drivetrain upgrades. The seller reports expenditure of approximately $20,000, supported by invoices, including around $7,000 for the R33 gearbox conversion. Further modifications include an upgraded turbocharger, plenum and manifold, cylinder-head work and a larger camshaft. A switch-operated, vacuum-controlled exhaust valve allows the exhaust volume to be adjusted.

The seller advises that the car had already undergone restoration work before their purchase, including a respray approximately ten years ago. They report no known current mechanical faults and state that the electrical equipment, including the headlight mechanisms and sunroof, operates correctly. Original service books are unavailable.

The seller describes the body as free of rust, with some stone chips and minor scratches. The interior is described as being in generally good condition, although a tear in the driver’s seat is disclosed. The photographs also show wear to the centre-console finish and paint deterioration on some engine-bay surfaces. Previous accident history is unknown.

Included with the sale are invoices for work completed during the current ownership and a spare wheel.
