This 1986 BMW M535i (E28) is a two-owner, Australian-delivered example powered by a fully rebuilt M30B34 engine with M30B35 crankshaft, forged rods, CP pistons, ported head, larger valves, Schrick camshaft, aftermarket headers and 2.5-inch exhaust, tuned to 160kW at the rear wheels on the five-speed dogleg pattern manual transmission. The odometer displays 273,338km.
The E28 M535i occupied a significant position in the BMW lineup as the performance flagship of the 5 Series range prior to the arrival of the full M5, combining the smooth M30 straight-six with sports suspension and M-specific trim. Australian-delivered examples with documented history are increasingly sought after by enthusiasts of the era.
The car is finished in black, resprayed in the original colour during a comprehensive restoration carried out approximately 15 years ago by RX Automotive of Coopers Plains, Queensland. The interior has been fully retrimmed including a new dashboard, and presents in good condition with minor general wear consistent with use. An aftermarket radio and car alarm have been fitted. The BBS RS 17-inch alloy wheels are fitted with new Bridgestone Potenza RE003 tyres.
The original owner purchased the car new in Sydney in 1986 and the current seller is the second owner. The seller advises a comprehensive restoration and modification programme was completed approximately 15 years ago by RX Automotive, encompassing the engine rebuild, gearbox rebuild with new synchros, differential rebuild, new clutch, BMW 7 Series front brake disc and caliper upgrade, new rear brake discs and calipers, Bilstein shocks and lowered springs, full exterior respray, and full interior retrim. The most recent major service was completed in 2023 by Executive Autocare, Newstead, Queensland, and included new power steering lines, new airflow meter and intake pipe, cleaned and serviced injectors, new spark plugs, and an oil and filter change. The seller reports the car has covered very few kilometres since. A dyno chart showing 160kW at the rear wheels is available. The original owner's manual and service book are present. The seller reports no known accident damage.
The seller reports the paint is in very good condition with no major scratches or dents. The seller advises the air conditioning requires regassing but is otherwise functional, and the coolant level sensor requires replacement. The sunroof does not operate and the switch requires replacement. Included with the sale are the original owner's manual, toolkit, original spare wheel and jack.
