This 1981 Porsche 924 Turbo is an Australian-delivered classic Porsche with continued maintenance and a clean colour combination. Under its bonnet sits a turbocharged 2.0-litre inline-four-cylinder engine that sends 132kW/245Nm to the rear wheels. The transmission in this car is a five-speed manual. Its odometer currently states 197,965km. Following on from the Porsche 912 and the 914, the Porsche 924 was the brand’s entry-level sports car that introduced a sleek new design. It was a sidestep for the German marque that had built its success on the 911 and its iconic shape.

But, the 924 allowed Porsche to welcome a younger buyer at a more attainable price point. It was also the first front-engined Porsche with a rear-wheel-drive layout. It wasn’t long before Porsche realised the market’s desire for more power, so the 924 Turbo was introduced. It applied turbocharged power to the 924’s proven chassis (with near-50/50 weight distribution) and the end result was a more realistic stepping stone to higher-specification 911s. The 924 Turbo continues to be one of the most affordable Porsches on the market and represents a great way for enthusiasts to join the brand’s inner circle. Painted in white and featuring brown cloth-upholstered seats, this 924 Turbo’s specification is straight out of the 1980s.

There have been no mechanical modifications according to the owner, but the car does now sport a Momo suede steering wheel and features the rear hatch from a 944 Turbo. The car continues to ride on 15-inch Porsche alloy wheels wrapped in Hankook tyres. Built new in West Germany and delivered new to Australia in June 1981, this 924 Turbo is now a four-owner car. The current owner has had the vehicle for two years; prior to that it was in storage as part of a collection since roughly 2015. Recent maintenance has been performed by the owner himself under direction from local mechanics and Porsche transaxle experts. Work carried out includes steering tie rods and ball joints replaced, filters replaced, timing belt replacement, a refreshed cooling system, and new fuel lines (and distributor) earlier this year.

The owner notes the fuel warm up regulator could need fixing soon. Exterior condition shows in good order overall. The white paintwork presents complete and no points of peeling clearcoat nor discolouration are seen. It has had a respray at some point. The black exterior finishes all present without fade, while the rear spoiler shows in good condition. According to the owner, the rear bumper needs some minor paintwork.

The wheels appear in good condition without obvious damage but will require a thorough clean. Inside, this 924 Turbo appears in great condition. The seats were recently reupholstered, the new steering wheel was added, new floor mats were added, and the stereo was upgraded to a Blaupunkt Skagen Bluetooth unit in period-correct style. The fabric upholstery shows no stains and the brown vinyl appears without significant marks. There is one small crack in the dashboard upper. All accompanying documentation and receipts will be supplied with this car, in addition to the original steering wheel and a sunroof cover.
