This 1979 Volkswagen Kombi (T2) is a South African-market example representing the final evolution of the iconic T2 platform, imported to Australia following a two-year restoration. Power comes from a fully reconditioned 2.0-litre air-cooled flat-four (52kW/70hp), backed by a four-speed manual transmission. The odometer displays 6,804km (TMU), reflecting kilometres accumulated since engine installation.

The T2 Kombi holds a unique place in automotive history as one of the longest-produced vehicles of any kind. While European and Australian production of the T2 ended in the 1970s, Volkswagen do Brasil and Volkswagen of South Africa continued manufacturing the model well into the following decades, with the South African-built examples maintaining the original air-cooled mechanicals and body architecture that defined the model's character. The 1979 model year represents a late and desirable iteration of this lineage.

The bus is finished in red and white, consistent with the original factory colour scheme, with the restoration undertaken with the specific intent to maintain full originality including paint colours. The interior has been fully renovated and re-upholstered in red and black vinyl with matching carpets. Seat belts have been installed in accordance with Australian regulations. The original five-spoke steel wheels are retained, fitted with a matching spare. A Bluetooth sound system including subwoofer and speakers has been fitted.

The seller reports knowledge of three previous owners. The car underwent a full two-year restoration prior to importation, with parts replaced as required using original OEM components sourced from the United Kingdom and Germany. A full service was completed by an independent air-cooled Volkswagen specialist in Port Elizabeth immediately prior to shipping to Australia. No service books are present. The seller advises there is no evidence of significant body rust or damage, and no accidents since the restoration was completed. The seller notes the battery requires replacement.

The seller reports the exterior presents in excellent condition with light wear consistent with use. The interior has been fully renovated and re-upholstered. Included with the sale are two full sets of keys synchronised for all locks, the original roof rack, a side awning with drop-down sides, a mattress system for the rock-and-roll pull-out rear seat and bed, window block-out covers, a spare wheel with cover, a bespoke Kombi car cover, and a toolkit.
