This 1978 Porsche 911 SC is a matching-numbers, right-hand-drive coupe originally delivered to California and imported to Australia in the mid-1990s. It is powered by a 3.0-litre naturally aspirated flat-six engine paired with a five-speed manual gearbox. Finished in its original paintwork and riding on factory Fuchs wheels, this 911 remains largely original and well maintained, with tasteful period modifications. The odometer currently shows 187,200 km. The 911 SC (Super Carrera) was introduced in 1978 as Porsche consolidated its lineup under a single model name. Built with a galvanised body and fitted with the reliable 3.0-litre engine, the SC has earned a reputation as one of the most durable and usable classic 911s. With its blend of classic air-cooled charm and improved drivability, it has become a favourite among collectors and enthusiasts alike.

This example was imported from California and converted to right-hand drive in 1995 by its second owner, a Porsche enthusiast who kept the car for approximately 18 years. It has been in the hands of the current owner since 2015, making it a long-term, enthusiast-owned vehicle. The car retains its original matching engine and chassis, confirmed by stamped numbers. Servicing has been a mix of professional and owner-performed work. Previous maintenance was carried out by Cascone Auto Sport, and the car was also tuned and serviced at one point by David from Nürnberg Automotive. The current owner has regularly carried out oil changes, filter replacements, brake servicing, and general upkeep. While documentation is limited, the car comes with some original service records. Mechanically, the car is described as running very well, with no known faults.

It starts on the first attempt and has never presented any reliability concerns. The only minor issue is that first gear can occasionally feel a little sticky, though this does not affect overall drivability. Cosmetically, the car presents as an honest survivor wearing its original factory paint. As expected from original paintwork of this age, there are a number of blemishes. These include light stone chips on the front bonnet, a few small dents on the bonnet and the top of the right-hand front guard, and a paint chip about the size of a 10-cent coin on the lower driver’s door. The area around the petrol filler has some small touched-up chips, and the right-hand lower driving light glass is cracked — the lights are functional, though they are currently disconnected. The car rides on original 16-inch Fuchs wheels, with 7-inch fronts and 8-inch rears, all of which present in excellent condition with no damage. It has been fitted with Koni adjustable suspension and sits lower than factory height.

A Monty exhaust has also been installed for a period-correct performance note, and the steering wheel has been replaced with a Personal Emerson Fittipaldi unit. Inside, the car remains in very original condition. The driver’s seat has a small tear on the lower lumbar area, and the passenger-side rear seat has a small tear on the upper edge. Everything is functioning as it should, including the electric sunroof. A Kenwood radio with Bluetooth and hands-free functionality has been fitted. The car is also equipped with central locking, an immobiliser, and a battery cut-off switch. Included with the sale are two keys, the original jack (toolkit not present), the original engine lid grille and the personalised number plates which will be included in the sale. No major accident damage or repairs are known.

This 911 SC presents as a well-kept, enthusiast-owned example of one of Porsche’s most useable classics. With tasteful upgrades, matching numbers, and a reliable mechanical history, it’s well suited to touring, club use, or returning to original specification.
