This 1976 Holden Torana LX SS Hatchback is an extensively modified example featuring a retro fitted A9X pack, along with a Street Machine magazine feature and competition use across Targa, rally and street car events. Power comes from a seller reported 6.3 litre LS1 based stroker V8 producing approximately 350kW (470hp) at the wheels, paired with a Tremec T56 Magnum close ratio six speed manual transmission, with the odometer currently showing 79,937 kilometres TMU.

Introduced in 1976, the LX Torana built on the LH platform while adding the now iconic hatchback body style, giving Holden a compact performance car with genuine touring car links and lasting collector appeal. The SS Hatchback became one of the most celebrated LX variants, while the later A9X option cemented the model’s place in Australian motorsport history through its homologation focus, upgraded mechanical package and association with Bathurst era Group C racing. Today, LX Torana SS Hatchbacks remain highly regarded among Australian muscle car enthusiasts, particularly examples with strong presentation, period influence and documented performance credentials.

According to the seller, this Torana is one of approximately 800 LX SS Hatchbacks built and was originally finished in Papaya Orange before being resprayed in Lone O’Ranger Orange with black accents around 20 years ago. The seller advises that A9X style features were added at the same time, including the rear facing bonnet scoop and rear disc brake conversion. The interior is fitted with limited edition Recaro Sport Classic seats in houndstooth trim, Schroth Racing harnesses, a Hurst shifter, fire extinguisher, Brown Davis partial roll cage, SS branded steering wheel and auxiliary instrumentation. The seller advises the car also features custom 15 inch forged SS style wheels, TCM spec 304x32mm Vari Racing brakes, AP Racing twin master cylinders, a locking hydraulic handbrake, Koni shocks tuned for fast tarmac driving, upgraded springs, a nine inch rear end with a full floater kit, 4.11 gearing, Detroit Truetrac centre and a Brown Davis 120 litre fuel tank.

The compliance plate confirms the car was manufactured by General Motors Holden’s Pty Ltd in May 1976 as an LX Torana Coupe with seating capacity for five and serial number ALX 005567 M. Delivery history and ownership chain details have not been provided in the supplied information. According to the seller, the engine was built by Glenn Wells Engines using ACL Race Series bearings, Manley conrods, high compression CP pistons, titanium valve springs and a Nathan Higgins camshaft, while the rear differential was built by Aikman Engineering. The seller reports the car has completed two Targa tours at Mount Buller, a non competitive Adelaide Rally with a 130km/h limit, won the Retro Rally at Wilby Park twice including lap records, won its class at the Ultimate Street Car Challenge at Calder Park, and was featured in the June 2023 issue of Street Machine magazine. The seller reports the car was last inspected for roadworthy compliance in July 2025, and that a November 2024 service at Melbourne Performance Centre included engine mounts, brake fluid and throttle body servicing.

The seller notes pitting to the left hand front wheel arch from stone chips, while no further exterior condition notes have been provided. No specific interior condition comments have been supplied, though the interior equipment fitted to the vehicle is outlined above. The sale includes the original owner’s manual.
