This 1974 Volkswagen Kombi is a single-owner example that has been carefully maintained, sympathetically restored, and thoughtfully evolved over its lifetime. Finished in its original Martini Olive and displaying 56,107km, it presents today in excellent condition with extensive documentation and known history from new.

Originally purchased new on 19 February 1975 from Bill Doherty Pty Ltd in Brisbane, the Kombi has remained with the same owner ever since. Throughout its life, it has undergone a number of configuration changes to suit different uses — initially used as a van for weekend trips, later converted and licensed to carry eight passengers, and now presented in its current professionally finished interior configuration. This current setup incorporates a practical camping conversion, including a Rock & Roll bed and a detachable table, making it well suited to touring and overnight use. It is currently registered to carry four occupants.

The vehicle has been serviced by a number of established Brisbane and Queensland workshops over the years, including Bill Doherty Pty Ltd, Mick Motors Northgate, Custom Off Road Stafford, Scorpio Motors Enoggera, and Conti Engines in Ningi. The original logbook is retained, along with receipts for major mechanical work.

Significant works were completed in December 2019, including the installation of a reconditioned 1835cc engine with a new case, along with a reconditioned gearbox and new clutch kit. The braking system was overhauled in July 2025. The most recent service was carried out by Scorpio Motors on 12 June 2024 at 54,054km, with the current speedometer reading now showing 56,109km.

Mechanically, the Kombi is reported to be in good condition overall. Minor items to note include a cabin ventilation fan that operates but is noisy, an indicator switch on the steering column that requires manual cancellation after turning, and a small oil drip from the sump outlet seal — a known and common characteristic of air-cooled Kombis. The heaters are not currently connected.

Externally, the vehicle has been fully stripped and repainted in its original Martini Olive by Hollywood Restorations in Arana Hills, Brisbane. The paintwork presents in excellent condition, with no stone chips, dents, scratches, or rust evident. Internally, the vehicle features a professionally finished interior, with new lining and upholstery throughout, and presents in clean, well-kept condition. As part of its touring-focused setup, the Kombi is also equipped with a self-supporting awning that attaches to the vehicle via the factory jacking points, providing convenient sheltered outdoor space when camping.

The engine upgrade from the original 1600cc unit to the current 1835cc configuration provides improved drivability while retaining the character of the original air-cooled drivetrain. In 2024, the Kombi was involved in a minor front-end accident, resulting in damage to the front bumper and front panel. Repairs were completed by Hollywood Restorations to a professional standard.

The Kombi is supplied with a comprehensive collection of extras and documentation, including a spare key, owner’s manual, service booklet, receipts, tool kit with jack, Anderson plug for solar panel connection, built-in 7-amp Noco battery charger for the auxiliary battery, and a 10A to 15A extension lead.
