This 1974 BMW (E9) 3.0 CS is a clean example of a BMW icon, complete with a new interior. Under the bonnet lies a naturally-aspirated 3.0-litre inline-six-cylinder engine that develops 134kW (180hp). This power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission. The odometer currently displays 59,243 miles. BMW’s 1960s line-up of “Neue Klasse” passenger sedans and economical hatches was a turning point for the manufacturer in more ways than one. Not only did it save the German manufacturer from dire financial circumstances, but the platform introduced a wave of new body styles, engines, and styling that it still holds dear today.

The most notable New Class car is the BMW E9 – a two-door sports coupe. The 3.0 CS variant is particularly notable thanks to its iconic M30 inline-six engine and its svelte Karmann-designed bodywork. The model became a strong platform for motorsport and earned BMW a reputation for building the world’s best sports cars. The most famous BMW E9 is the 3.0 CSL, which was a homologation special, but well-sorted 3.0 CS examples are valuable on the used market.

Painted in Fjord Blue metallic on the outside and paired with a dark blue interior, this BMW E9’s colour combination is special. It is highlighted by black “3.0 CS” exterior striping on the outside and features quilted upholstery inside the cabin. It also sports woodgrain trim on the dashboard. It sits on a set of 14-inch BMW wheels wrapped in Michelin tyres. This car was assembled by BMW in Munich and its body was built by Karmann in Osnabruck, Germany. It was first imported to Australia from the UK in 2020 and has been owned by a BMW collector in the past.

While in the UK the car featured in Classic Cars magazine. The seller describes the car in good mechanical condition and prime for a manual swap, or to be enjoyed as is. The owner will share books and service details as needed. Exterior condition is shown to a high standard. The Fjord Blue paintwork presents in beautiful, glossy condition and no marks of paint imperfection are identified. Black striping and chrome exterior detailing displays in good order. All four wheels appear in fine condition without kerb rash.

Interior-wise, this E9 presents in great order with a recent interior overhaul. The car now has blue quilted upholstery that displays with no deformation or stains. The carpeting, steering wheel, dashboard, and instrumentation appears in similarly clean condition. No marks of staining or sag is seen on the headlining. The instrumentation and switchgear appears with no noticeable wear and tear. All accompanying documentation will be supplied with this car, as well as a tool kit. As per Trading Garage’s Terms and Conditions, although Trading Garage have completed the following checks, bidders must satisfy themselves to the accuracy of the description and do any research, they feel necessary before bidding.
