This 1974 BMW 2002 Tii is fitted with a desirable five-speed close-ratio Getrag manual gearbox and remains a two-owner car since new. Under its bonnet lies a naturally-aspirated 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine that produces 96kW (128hp). Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed Getrag manual gearbox. The odometer currently states 94,746 miles. The BMW 2002 is often considered one of the brand’s most important models of all time. This (relatively) large engine version of the Neue Klasse platform was based on the earlier 1602 model that was intended as affordable, safe, and practical transport for families. But BMW’s product planners had other ideas, setting about fitting a large 2.

0-litre engine under the bonnet and leaning into the chassis’ sportiness. This project was presented to the BMW board of directors to sign off on a production run of the 1602 models fitted with larger engines. At the same time, BMW importers in America were calling for sportier cars, so the proposal faced little opposition and it was put into production. The 2002 Tii is one of the most desirable variants thanks to its more powerful outputs and fuel injection. Today, these cars remain highly desirable, especially if unmodified. This car is painted in Turkish Metallic paint and pairs a black vinyl/fabric interior. There are subtle chrome accents on the bodywork, plus woodgrain trim panels inside the cabin.

There are no irreversible modifications made to this car, however it does feature a coolant sensor fan (factory fan supplied), Crane/Allison XR700-0231 electronic ignition kit, and a micro oil filter. It also rides on a set of later-model 14-inch alloy wheels wrapped in Kumho tyres. The original owner of this car ordered a European delivery and travelled to Munich, Germany to collect it before shipping it back to Australia. The only other owner is the current custodian who has held the vehicle since 1983. The car underwent a bare-metal restoration nearly 30 years ago with Swiss Motors in Western Australia. The interior and engine were also refurbished at the same time. The engine was replaced by AutoClassic BMW in 1991.

Servicing and oil changes have traditionally been performed by the owner himself. Recent significant service was carried out in 2020 – this addressed the brakes and the gearbox/differential oils were renewed. The temperature gauge may show higher than normal when stationary in traffic, though it remains within the safe coolant temperature range — the sensor fan then activates and brings it down. The original mechanical fan is supplied with the vehicle. Externally, this 2002 shows in pristine condition throughout. The striking paintwork appears with a gorgeous shine in the sunlight and the chrome trim is polished brightly. There are a couple of minor scratches on the driver’s door and bonnet, according to the owner.

The sunroof operates as normal and there is minimal stone chipping seen on the front end. All four wheels appear in fair condition without obvious damage. Inside, this car has been fastidiously restored. The seat upholstery was professionally retrimmed using new factory-spec black vinyl, with fabric inserts imported from overseas. The seat cushioning material was also replaced at the same time. The carpets are original and still present well. Cluster trims are unmarked and the headlining is in excellent condition considering its age.

Original books and manuals will be supplied with this car, in addition to the original wheels and the original fan. As per Trading Garage Terms and Conditions, although Trading Garage has completed the following checks, bidders must satisfy themselves to the accuracy of the description and do any research they feel necessary before bidding. All listings are sold in Australian dollars. This car is registered in WA until 26/4/25. There are no security interests registered on the PPSR against the serial number and it is not recorded as written off or stolen.
