This 1973 BMW (E9) 3.0 CSi is presented following a full restoration and has remained with its current owner for approximately 14 years. It is powered by a 3.0 litre naturally aspirated inline six cylinder engine, factory rated at 147 kW (200 hp), paired with a five speed dogleg manual transmission driving the rear wheels through a limited slip differential. The odometer currently displays 88,365 miles* TMU.
The E9 coupé evolved from BMW’s earlier 2000 C and CS models, with the six cylinder 2800 CS joining the range in 1968. The fuel injected 3.0 CSi followed in 1971, combining the elegant pillarless coupé body produced by Karmann with BMW’s M30 inline six cylinder engine. The E9 platform also formed the basis of the lightweight 3.0 CSL competition programme, helping establish the sporting identity later associated with BMW M. Production of the E9 continued until 1975, when it was succeeded by the first generation 6 Series.
Finished in red over a black interior, this example features chrome bumpers and exterior trim, twin front grilles and silver alloy wheels. The seller advises that the vehicle underwent a full restoration, during which corrosion was removed and the body was repainted. Mechanical changes include an upgraded cylinder head, a five speed dogleg manual transmission, a limited slip differential and an upgraded exhaust system.
The vehicle has had three previous owners and was acquired by the current owner from Western Australia approximately 14 years ago. Servicing and maintenance during the current ownership have been completed by Peek Performance, other BMW specialists and a local mechanic. Original service books are not available.
The seller describes the red paintwork, exterior trim and black interior as being in good overall condition following the restoration. No current mechanical work has been identified by the seller. The restoration and mechanical work should be assessed with reference to the photographs and any available supporting documentation.
Included with the vehicle are a partial toolkit and one set of keys.
