This 1972 Toyota Celica is a GT-styled TA22 coupe featuring a modified 7A-GE drivetrain and ownership by the current seller since 2017. Toyota introduced the first-generation Celica in December 1970, combining a dedicated two-door hardtop body with a platform shared with the Carina. The range offered several engine and transmission combinations.This 1972 example belongs to the early coupe period of Celica production, before the Liftback joined the range in 1973.

Finished in Morpheous metallic purple, identified by the owner as a VE Commodore colour, the Celica has been modified to resemble a TA22 GT with GT badging, bonnet flutes and grille. The photographed identification plate records a 1,588 cc 2T four-cylinder engine, distinguishing its recorded factory specification from the replacement drivetrain now fitted. The cabin features grey retrimmed upholstery, sports seats, a wood-rim steering wheel, an immobiliser and central locking. The supplied specification lists 15x8-inch front and 15x9-inch rear wheels, T3 front coilovers with adjustable camber and caster strut tops, King rear springs and a rear sway bar. Front braking uses four-piston Hilux callipers with Peugeot rotors. Further modifications include a short shifter, custom gear lever and tailshaft, an alloy radiator, individual SilverTop throttle bodies, a custom exhaust manifold and a three-inch stainless-steel exhaust system.

The owner advises that the Celica has travelled fewer than 3,000 km since being acquired in 2017, primarily attending local shows and club gatherings, with servicing undertaken by the enthusiast owner. They are aware of one previous owner, who retained the car for more than a decade. The supplied history records a respray in 2009 and an interior retrim in 2010. Recent work includes a fresh engine and associated ancillaries, replacement fluids, a rear brake overhaul, a high-performance Exedy clutch, new inertia-reel seatbelts, carpet, sports seats and dash pad, plus replacement suspension bushes where required. The engine build is described as using a 7A bottom end with forged MRP connecting rods and CP pistons, an extensively ported 16-valve head and an 11.3:1 compression ratio. Camtech 294 camshafts operate Supertech valves with Toda valve springs, while adjustable cam gears provide timing adjustment. A Haltech Platinum ECU controls the engine and coil-on-plug ignition.

The seller describes the paintwork as presenting well, with minor marks, chips and flaws consistent with its age, and advises that both the current and previous owner have kept the car garaged. A previous minor paint and panel repair to the left-rear wheel arch is disclosed. The retrimmed interior is reported to show little wear. Following rewiring for the replacement engine and ECU, the tachometer requires a signal converter to operate with the new system. Electric windscreen-demister fans have not yet been fitted.

Included with the sale are a standard centre console with clock, a custom console designed to accommodate a stereo, assorted replacement switchgear, knobs and dials, and the unfitted electric windscreen-demister fans.
