This 1971 Holden Torana GTR (LC) is a competition focused example with Group U eligibility, historic race inspired modifications and a recently fitted 304ci 5.0 litre naturally aspirated V8. The seller advises it is a factory plated LC GTR Torana, while its XU1 status was suggested by a previous owner but cannot be confirmed from the supplied information. Power output has not been supplied, with drive sent through a Ford T5 manual transmission, and the seller advises the car has covered approximately 5 kilometres since the V8 setup was fitted.
Introduced in 1969, the LC Torana gave Holden a smaller and more agile platform that quickly became one of the marque’s most important competition cars. The GTR brought a sporting focus to the LC range, while the later GTR XU1 became closely associated with Holden Dealer Team development, Series Production racing and rally competition. With its compact proportions, rear wheel drive layout and long motorsport association, the LC Torana remains a highly regarded model among Australian touring car and historic racing enthusiasts.
The body identification plate lists the model as LC 82911, with body number 2715 A, trim code 1199 40V and paint code 568 12204. According to the seller, the car is currently finished in Lamborghini Orange over earlier historic paint finishes underneath, with a black competition style interior. The seller advises the body has had outer wheel arch modifications to fit 10 inch wheels all round, while the tunnel has also had minor panel work to accommodate the V8 conversion. Equipment includes a fibreglass bonnet and boot, steel doors with winders, factory glass, a bolt in alloy roll cage considered suitable for the class, Cobra front seats, harnesses, auxiliary gauges, a large tacho and a manual shifter. The seller advises the car comes with 8x15 and 10x15 Hotwire wheels with Avon wet tyres, plus five 10x15 Jellybean wheels with Goodyear slicks.
The seller advises the car has been built with the aim of retaining as many historic modifications and period features as possible to preserve its nostalgic race car character. The recently fitted 304 V8 is said to be supported by a new ICE ignition system, ICE coil, ICE distributor, ICE rev limiter, Edelbrock 650 carburettor, new manifold and new headers. The driveline specification is reported to include a Mal Wood under dash clutch, centre bearing thrust setup, Ford T5 gearbox and a narrowed BorgWarner rear end from an SS Commodore with SS disc brakes. Braking updates are said to include a new Wilwood master cylinder and proportioning valve. The seller advises the car has completed one khanacross event and one hillclimb with the current V8 setup. The seller also advises that rear arch cut outs from a donor car are included should the next owner wish to remove the flares, and that a GTR dash, SU carburettors and other Torana parts collected over time may be available separately.
The seller advises the factory glass carries racing marks underneath from regular race track use, while no further exterior condition notes have been supplied. No specific interior condition comments have been supplied beyond the competition fit out described above. The seller advises the car can be used for racing in its current form or stripped and restored back toward its factory specification, and has also indicated it may be made available as a roller without the V8 upgrades by separate negotiation.
