This 1968 Ford Mustang GT500 Eleanor Tribute is a fully restored and customised example finished in grey with black striping over a black leather and cloth interior. It is powered by a 347 cubic inch V8 paired with a Tremec five speed manual transmission. The odometer currently indicates 13,348 km*. Originally inspired by the car from the film Gone in 60 Seconds, Eleanor tributes blend the design cues of the classic fastback Mustang with upgraded mechanicals and modernised trim.
First introduced in 1964, the Mustang quickly became one of America’s most influential performance cars, offering V8 power, sharp styling and broad customisation options. High performance variants developed by Carroll Shelby soon followed, topping the range with the GT500. Eleanor tribute builds emerged decades later as a highly recognisable re-interpretation of the Shelby Mustang, combining signature styling details such as widened guards and driving lights with mechanical upgrades tailored to modern road use. Today, GT500E tributes are among the most sought after custom Mustang builds worldwide.
This example was imported to Australia in the early 2000s and underwent a full rotisserie restoration and Eleanor conversion by a specialist builder in Perth, where it was rebuilt from the ground up. The current owner is understood to be the third custodian. Under present ownership the car has continued to receive extensive mechanical updates and servicing. All major modification work has been completed by a Mustang specialist in New South Wales, with routine servicing carried out through a Ford dealership in Lithgow. The car has been inspected every six months, with full mechanical checks performed at each visit. The most recent service was completed two months ago, and no mechanical faults are reported.
Significant upgrades completed in recent years include a new radiator and dual electric fan system, a new power steering system, a new MSD ignition system, new heater control cables, refurbished heater box, new wiring from the dash forward, a new battery and a new Dakota Digital dash. A new rear axle and differential have been fitted, and the brakes have been recently serviced. The engine, a 347 stroker fitted during its Perth build, features Edelbrock cylinder heads and an Edelbrock 600 carburettor and has recently been professionally dyno tuned for performance and reliability.
The exterior presents in excellent condition overall, consistent with a fully restored custom build, and carries the correct Eleanor styling elements including twin stripes and driving lamps. Three very small rust bubbles are noted on the rear right quarter panel. A kangaroo strike required the front left guard to be repaired and repainted. A full size spare is located in the boot along with a new boot liner.
Inside, the cabin presents well with leather and cloth upholstery that remains tidy and serviceable. The Dakota Digital dash integrates with a mobile app, providing modern functionality. The interior has been fitted with new carpet and new floor mats. A retro style head unit with USB integration is installed, and the door trims and dashboard present in good condition.
This Eleanor Tribute is listed on the World Wide Eleanor Registry as vehicle number 404, and its registration certificate will accompany the sale. The car will be supplied with a file documenting its build history, restoration work and maintenance, together with receipts and supporting service records.
