This 1968 Ford Mustang Fastback has been restored as a Bullitt replica and has remained with its first Australian owner since being imported in 1995. It is powered by a rebuilt 4.9 litre naturally aspirated Windsor V8, reported to produce in excess of 298 kW (400 hp), paired with a four speed Toploader manual transmission driving the rear wheels through a nine inch differential. The odometer currently displays 53,182 miles* TMU.

The first generation Mustang was introduced in 1964 and received a substantial update for 1967, followed by further detail changes for 1968. The fastback body style became closely associated with the model’s performance identity, with the 1968 Mustang achieving particular cultural significance through its appearance in the film Bullitt.

Originally finished in Acapulco Blue, this California built example underwent a ground up restoration in 2016 and was refinished in Dark Highland Green metallic as a Bullitt replica. The exterior treatment includes deleted badging, colour coded trim and a black rear panel, while 17 inch wheels from a 2001 Mustang Bullitt have been fitted. Further upgrades include Bilstein shock absorbers, Brembo front brakes, rear disc brakes, a mandrel bent stainless steel exhaust and a complete electrical rewire. The interior remains largely in its original configuration, with a 1967 camera case style dashboard fitted.

The vehicle was imported into Australia in 1995 and has remained with the same owner since arrival. The seller advises that it was built and has continued to be serviced by a Ford specialist. The 302 cubic inch Windsor V8 was fully rebuilt as part of the restoration and is fitted with a 780 cfm Holley four barrel carburettor. Approximately 3,000 miles have reportedly been travelled since the restoration was completed, and receipts relating to the engine build, servicing and restoration are retained.

According to the seller, the Dark Highland Green metallic paintwork, exterior trim and interior are in excellent condition. The vehicle is also reported to be in proper mechanical working order, with no known accident history declared. Its exhaust system was purpose built by a motorsport engineer and is described as producing a prominent V8 exhaust note.

Included with the vehicle are spare keys, a spare wheel and receipts relating to the restoration and mechanical work.
