This 1967 Ford Falcon XR GT is an Australian-delivered, matching-numbers example, powered by a naturally aspirated 4.9-litre V8 paired with a four-speed Toploader manual transmission driving the rear wheels. It is one of a small number of late-production XR GTs understood to have been factory fitted with the larger 302ci Windsor V8. The odometer currently shows 85,694 miles* TMU.
Introduced in May 1967, the XR GT established the Falcon GT lineage, combining V8 performance with a four-speed manual transmission, upgraded suspension, power-assisted front disc brakes and sports instrumentation. The model also secured victory at the 1967 Bathurst 500 with Harry Firth and Fred Gibson. Although the standard XR GT used a 289ci Windsor V8, published histories describe a small number of late examples receiving the larger 302ci engine subsequently used in the XT GT. ICAARS independently verifiy this car as one of those factory-fitted examples, the individual 302ci provenance has been established.
Finished in GT Gold with black lower-body stripes, the Falcon features GT badging, chrome bumpers and steel wheels with polished wheel covers. The black cabin has front bucket seats, a rear bench, a three-spoke steering wheel, woodgrain-effect dashboard trim and a floor-mounted Hurst gear lever. The photographed identification plate records model 18638, paint code T for GT Gold and transmission code L for a four-speed manual. It also carries engine code K, conventionally associated with the 289 V8; this recorded specification is distinct from the seller’s representation that the fitted 302ci engine is original. The supplied specification describes a 2.92:1 rear differential, while photographs show a chrome air-cleaner housing and blue engine finishes.
The seller reports seven years’ ownership and identifies three previous owners. According to the supplied history, the car was purchased new from Dougherty & Co in Kyogle, New South Wales, in November 1967 by an RAAF serviceman, with subsequent ownership involving lengthy periods of storage. The second owner reportedly stored it in 1987 at 59,162 miles, and the third owner acquired it in late 1996 before returning it to storage in January 2002 at 83,072 miles. Maintenance during the current ownership is described as including an original engine rebuild, replacement clutch and pressure plate, steering-wheel restoration, instrument recalibration and radiator reconditioning with a four-core assembly. Further work includes brake servicing, reconditioning of the brake booster and brake and clutch hydraulic components, refurbishment of the wiper motor and alternator, a replacement single exhaust and four new tyres. The seller reports independent servicing at approximately 5,000 km intervals.
The seller describes the body, paint and interior as original and unrestored, with no known accident repairs or resprays. Photographs show localised paint chips and blemishes, wear to interior surfaces and ageing to some engine-bay finishes. The seats, door cards, carpets and headlining are represented as original factory items, with the steering wheel and instruments having received the work outlined above. The seller reports no current mechanical faults and advises that the instruments and controls operate correctly. A photographed ICAARS certificate dated March 2022 describes the car as a maintained XR GT with most original matching-number components, while a photographed certificate records a Silver Award in the Original Maintained category at the 2023 Falcon GT Nationals.
Included with the sale are the original owner’s manual and glovebox logbook, original keys, maintenance receipts covering the current and previous owners, and the written ownership history. The seller also identifies the spare wheel and tyre in the boot as original to the car. This vehicle is represented by the seller as retaining its original 302ci Windsor V8 and accompanied by ownership and maintenance records spanning four previous owners.
