This 1966 Alfa Romeo Giulia Super 1600 is finished in green paintwork over a tan interior. The Alfa Romeo Giulia Super 1600 is a celebrated sports sedan from the 1960s, admired for its advanced engineering, balanced chassis, and lively 1.6-litre twin-cam engine. Today, it is sought after for its mix of period charm, everyday usability and motorsport pedigree. The odometer currently indicates 39,527 miles.*
Launched in the mid-1960s, the Giulia Super built on Alfa Romeo’s reputation for combining style with performance. It offered family-car practicality wrapped in a compact, boxy design, while its communicative chassis and rev-happy engine set new standards for sporting sedans of the era. The model has since earned a loyal following among enthusiasts for its driving character and enduring motorsport heritage.
This example has been in indoor storage for approximately 15 years, purchased by an Alfa collector with the intention of upgrading and improving it. Due to the owner’s large collection and multiple ongoing restorations, the work never progressed. The car was started regularly until the fuel tank began to leak, at which point it was parked.
The Giulia was recently inspected by Mauceri Motors, Alfa Romeo specialists in Melbourne. Their findings note that the car is fully intact with all components still in place. Rust is present at the fuel tank and rear spare wheel cell, with small areas also found in the radiator area and right-side suspension. The car has been previously painted to a low standard, and a respray would be required to bring it up to good condition. Brakes will need a full overhaul, and some front suspension bushes will require replacement. On the positive side, the water in the cooling system was found clean and free of rust and the oil was fresh. The engine starts easily when fuel is supplied directly to the carburettors, with excellent oil pressure and no visible smoke. According to the seller, the car has never been dismantled and remains complete, making it a strong base for restoration.
The interior presents well for its age, with the tan upholstery and cabin trim appearing in sound order. Correct period Michelin tyres are still fitted. This Giulia Super 1600 is suited to an enthusiast looking for a project they can take on themselves, with good potential to return the car to road or show condition.
