This 1965 Jaguar E-Type Series 1 4.2 is a well-documented and factory-matching example finished in its original Dark Blue over Red trim combination. It is powered by the 4.2-litre inline six-cylinder engine paired with a four-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels, and the odometer displays 28,087 miles indicated.
Introduced in 1964, the 4.2-litre Series 1 retained the iconic covered-headlight bodywork of the original E-Type while benefiting from increased torque, improved cooling and a fully synchromesh gearbox. Built at Jaguar’s Browns Lane factory in Coventry, 1965 production represents what many enthusiasts consider the sweet spot of early E-Type manufacture, combining purity of design with improved drivability over the earlier 3.8-litre cars.
Manufactured on 30 March 1965 and despatched on 6 April 1965, chassis 1E 20510 was supplied new through Coombs and Sons of Guildford, Surrey, and first registered as HPJ 7 C. The accompanying Jaguar Heritage Certificate confirms matching engine (7E 3447-9), body (4E 21423) and gearbox (EJ 2514) numbers, along with its original Dark Blue over Red colour combination.
The car was repurchased by the dealership principal in 1972 and later formed part of the Catherine House Car Collection, where it was maintained and driven sparingly until 1994. Two subsequent documented owners followed prior to its private import to Melbourne in 2013, which included full compliance and supporting documentation. The current owner has held the vehicle since August 2013.
Servicing has been carried out by Southbank Prestige Service Centre, with original service books accompanying the vehicle. The most recent service was completed in June 2025. The vehicle is reported to be in excellent mechanical condition with no known faults.
Externally, the Dark Blue paintwork and brightwork present in outstanding order. The navy finish contrasts strongly with the red leather interior, a factory-correct and highly desirable E-Type colour combination.
Inside, the red leather cabin presents equally well, with seats, carpets, instrumentation and controls all reported to be in excellent condition and free from noted functional issues.
The vehicle remains unmodified, with no aftermarket alterations fitted. There is no known accident history and no restorations or resprays are reported.
Included with the sale are the Jaguar Heritage Certificate, service books, receipts and associated documentation, along with spare keys and the tool kit.
