This 1965 Austin-Healey 3000 Mark III BJ8 convertible presents in gorgeous condition with a suite of supporting documents and service history. It is powered by a 2.9-litre inline-six-cylinder engine which outputs 111kW (150hp) to the rear wheels. It features a four-speed H-pattern manual gearbox. The odometer of this car currently shows 80,308 miles. The Austin-Healey 3000 is one of the manufacturer’s best-known models and its iconic looks still catch the eye today. It was designed as a bigger-engined follow-up to the Austin-Healey 100-6 but also featured disc brakes to reign in speed quickly.

Throughout its eight-year production cycle, the 3000 moved progressively from an open-top sports car to a sports convertible. The Mark III BJ8 iteration arrived in February 1964 with increased power outputs from its 2.9-litre engine, as well as power-assisted brakes as standard. The BJ8 sports convertible was produced until 1968 when the model was discontinued and Austin-Healey’s British Motor Corporation parent company was merged with Leyland and Rover. The Austin-Healey 3000’s reputation in motorsport circles is strong, as the model won its class in countless European rallies. It is still used in motorsports categories today.

This Austin-Healey 3000 is painted in light blue metallic and features a two-tone white contrast panel down its side profile. Inside the cabin, it’s specified with beige trim and accented by woodgrain trim inserts. The soft-top roof matches the interior upholstery. In terms of modifications, the owner has changed the fuel filler cap location to the top of the rear fender and Koni shock absorbers have been fitted. It rides on a set of period-correct 15-inch wire wheels wrapped in Pirelli P6 tyres. Manufactured in the United Kingdom and cared for by the current owner for the past 22 years, this Austin-Healey comes with recent documentation.

Service receipts and documentation covers the period from October 1995 until today. The current owner purchased the vehicle in 2002 from an owner who held the vehicle between 1995-2002. In the current owner’s care, approximately 95 per cent of services and mechanical repairs were completed at The Healey Factory in Ringwood, VIC. The car underwent a full body restoration with that workshop in 2010, while the interior has been redone by Garry Blackman. The car’s exterior presentation is fantastic – especially given its age. The blue paintwork glosses nicely in the sun and chrome trim is polished to a shine.

There are next to no imperfections seen on the front end and even the car’s underside presents remarkably clean. The soft top roof pulls taut over the frame and all four wheels shine brightly with minimal wear and tear. Inside the cabin, this Austin-Healey shows in great order. The redone trim continues to present without wear and tear, while no scuffs or stains are noted on the interior carpeting. The woodgrain trim has not noticeably weathered with age, while instrumentation dials and gauges present with a shine. All accompanying documents will be supplied with this vehicle’s sale, as well as a car cover and a newly fitted battery.
