This 1964 Holden EH Special station wagon is a brilliant example of Australia’s motoring history that presents in a striking blue-on-blue colourway. Under its bonnet lies a naturally-aspirated six-cylinder engine that outputs up to 85kW and 237Nm. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed manual transmission. The odometer of this car currently shows 49,140 miles. The EH Holden is an icon of local manufacturing. Designed for Australians and built by Australians, the model has come to represent the very best aspects of the 1960s: sun, surf, and a laidback attitude. It was produced for just two short years between 1963 and 1965 and marked the first time Holden used its ubiquitous ‘Red motor’ six-cylinder powerplant.

It was offered in three trim levels: the entry-level Standard, the mid-spec Special, and the flagship Premier. During its heyday the EH Holden was the country’s best-selling car and it’s easy to see why. The six-cylinder motor is powerful, the characterful steering is a joy to behold, and the spaciousness of the cabin is eminently practical. Today, the EH Holden is a lovely car to own and drive. It continues to spark a sense of joy whenever passers-by catch a glimpse on the road. Holden allowed customers a generous colour palette with the EH and this example is a beneficiary of that fact.

The Aqua Turquoise paintwork on the outside is matched by a bright blue vinyl interior, while the venetian blinds and chrome bumpers add to the look. It also sports a contrasting white roof – very much a representation of its time. There are minimal modifications made to the car, though the owner details a set of extractors and a boot-mounted subwoofer. It rides on a set of 13-inch hubcap wheels wrapped in Achilles tyres. Manufactured new in Australia and delivered locally, this EH Holden presents well for a 60-year-old car. It has been owned by the seller for the last seven years and servicing has been completed by Dinkum Autos in Cheltenham, VIC.

There are no current faults and the car runs well, according to the owner. The car will be sold unregistered. The external presentation is impressive for a car of its age. The blue paintwork glosses nicely in the light and no major imperfections are seen. The owner notes some small marks and scratches, as normal for this car’s age. The chrome bumpers and exterior detailing is polished to a bright shine.

Subtle marks of surface rust can be seen on certain wheels. Interior-wise, this EH Holden continue to present in good condition without major wear and tear. The turquoise vinyl bench seat holds a good shape with minimal sagging, while the dashboard appears with commensurate nicks and marks for its age. Some light cracking and fade is noted in the vinyl and minor discolouration is seen in the headlining. Scuffs and marks are noted on the backside of the front bench and tears are identified in the driver’s door panel. All accompanying documentation will be supplied with this vehicle’s sale.
