This 1964 Ford Mustang Coupe is an early production example commonly referred to as a 1964½ Mustang and has remained with its current owner since May 2016. Its VIN identifies a D code 289 cubic inch four barrel V8, a 4.7 litre naturally aspirated engine factory rated at 157 kW (210 hp), paired with an automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. The odometer displays 9,304 miles and should be considered TMU.
Ford introduced the Mustang to the public in April 1964, creating the formula that would become known as the pony car and achieving more than 418,000 sales during its first year. The earliest cars are widely referred to as 1964½ Mustangs, although Ford designated them as 1965 model year vehicles, reflected by the leading ‘5’ in this car’s VIN. VIN 5F07D109842 further identifies Dearborn assembly, hardtop bodywork and the D code 289 four barrel V8.
This example is finished in black, described by the seller as Raven Black, over a cream interior with black carpeting. It rides on 17 inch Rocket alloy wheels with low profile tyres and has been fitted with a dual exhaust system and suspension described by the seller as Pedders type. The speedometer has been converted to kilometres per hour while the odometer continues to record miles, and lap seat belts are fitted. The seller also advises that the indicators have been modified to comply with NSW registration requirements.
The current owner purchased the Mustang from Performance Vehicle Sales in Blakehurst, NSW, in May 2016, having been advised at the time that the car had previously come from western New South Wales. An American registration sticker remains on the windscreen, although the date and circumstances of its importation to Australia have not been documented. Some servicing has been carried out by D & S Automotive in Kirrawee, while the seller, a retired licensed automotive mechanic, reports undertaking routine maintenance personally. The engine and automatic transmission were last serviced in May 2025, with the seller advising that the car covers approximately 150 miles each year. The seller further advises that the body serial numbers correspond with the vehicle’s VIN.
According to the seller, the black paint presents in exceptional condition, with no dents or rust found, while the aluminium trim and chrome are reported to remain in good condition. The cream seating and black carpeting are also described as presenting well. The seller advises that the radio speaker requires replacement.
The owner's manual and portable fire extinguisher is included with the vehicle. A new glove box and aerial are included for installation.
