This 1962 Morris Mini 850 is an Australian-built version of a British classic, presenting in fully-restored condition with a unique colour combination. It is powered by an 1100cc (1.1-litre) four-cylinder petrol engine which sends power to the front wheels. It utilises a four-speed manual transmission. The odometer currently displays 68,320 miles. Minis might best be known for carving up the Monte Carlo Rally and their bigger-engined rivals through the mid-1960s, but the underlying car was affordable, comfortable transport for up to four people. In what was a revelation for the time the Mini’s design pushed the wheels to all four corners of the car which not only improved interior space, but gave the little hatch phenomenal road-holding ability.

Versions were built in Australia through the 1960s, including the unique Morris 850, which can be distinguished by its pressed steel grille, centre speedometer, and sliding windows. The Morris 850 was the first Mini available to Australian buyers and came in an impressive 30 colours. More than 60,000 examples were manufactured in Australia before local production stopped after four years. Painted in period correct Toga White and offset by a Burgundy roof, this Mini continues to catch attention today. The interior is upholstered with red vinyl and white trim while silver trim is used on the exterior. The original colour of this car was Platinum before being resprayed to its current look today.

This car has stayed largely original and no obvious aftermarket mods are noted. It rides on a set of 10-inch steel hub caps wrapped in Nankang tyres. Manufactured locally in Australia and used as a daily driver until the late 1990s, this Morris 850 now presents in restored condition. The vehicle was placed into dry storage until several years ago where it was then purchased by the current owner. After taking delivery the current owner commissioned a total mechanical strip down and full rotisserie treatment for the body. The engine and transmission was fully rebuilt including an upgrade to an 1100cc unit.

Reassembly including a new wiring loom, brake and fuel lines. In terms of exterior presentation this Morris 850 presents in brilliant order. The white paintwork of the body shows no imperfections or swirl marks, while chrome trim is presented with a shiny glean. The red roof appears with good reflections in the light. Kerb rash can be seen on the wheel rims, but indentations can be seen on the hub cap faces too. Interior-wise, the cabin was retrimmed in red vinyl around the same time the car was restored.

The seats hold their original shapes and little deformation is seen. The dashboard and instruments present without major wear, though subtle creasing is seen on the dash vinyl. The carpeting and headlining shows in undamaged condition without stains. All accompanying documentation and booklets will be supplied with this car.
