This 1961 Mercedes-Benz 190 SL (W121) has undergone restoration and now presents in gorgeous condition with a highly-desirable silver-over-tan colour combination. It is powered by a naturally-aspirated 1.9-litre four-cylinder engine that outputs 77kW (104hp) to the rear wheels. This power is harnessed by a four-speed manual transmission. This car’s odometer currently shows 54,611 miles. The W121-generation 190 SL was first revealed to the world at the 1954 New York Auto Show as a more attractive, more affordable alternative to the popular 300 SL. As Mercedes’ top-tier flagship, the 300 SL remained out of reach to general customers, but the 190 SL brought its styling flair and sports ability to a wider audience. As a point of difference, the 190 SL was available with an optional body-coloured hard top.

Both cars shared engineering, styling, fine details, and independent suspension, though the 300 SL is fitted with a larger six-cylinder engine featuring more power. Mercedes-Benz attempted to introduce a six-cylinder W121 SL variant, though production challenges with the forthcoming W113-generation SL meant the project was mooted before it even began. These days, both the 190 and 300 SLs have achieved cult classic status and values have skyrocketed. This car is painted in silver-grey and specifies a tan leather-upholstered cabin, a classic Mercedes-Benz colourway that remains popular today. It was optioned with the removable body-coloured hard top. There are no obvious aftermarket modifications made to this car. It continues to run with a set of 13-inch body-coloured Mercedes hubcaps wrapped in Nankang whitewall tyres.

Manufactured in right-hand-drive specification in Stuttgart, Germany and delivered new through the United Kingdom, this car has since relocated to Australia and currently stands as part of a classic car collection. It was purchased by the current owner from Pro-Star Mercedes-Benz specialists, where it also underwent a full restoration. Condition-wise, this W121 190 SL presents in remarkable order for its age. The silver-grey paintwork appears to have been fabulously maintained and no marks of scratching or scuffs are identified. Chrome trim appears with a reflective shine, too. No obvious wear and tear can be seen on the car’s hard-top roof panel. Some light kerb rash is noted around the wheel rims.

Inside, this 190 SL appears in great condition. The tan leather upholstery pulls taut over the seat cushions and no scuff marks or tears are noted in the leather. Its white steering wheel shows in good order and the body-coloured dash panel presents without marks or obvious patina. The door panels and roof-lining contain no scuffs. All accompanying documentation will be supplied with this car. As per Trading Garage Terms and Conditions, although Trading Garage has completed the following checks, bidders must satisfy themselves to the accuracy of the description and do any research they feel necessary before bidding. All listings are sold in Australian dollars.

This car is currently registered under a club permit in Victoria. There are no security interests registered on the PPSR against the serial number and it is not recorded as written off or stolen.
