This 1960 MG A Roadster is a long held, lightly used example finished today in Monza Red over a brown leather interior. It is powered by a 1.5 litre four cylinder engine, with power sent to the rear wheels through a four speed manual gearbox. The odometer currently indicates 37,304 miles.

Development of the MG A began in the early 1950s as a clean sheet replacement for the MG TF and introduced a low, streamlined body with ponton style fenders that marked a major design shift for the brand. The MG A did not immediately make it to production, with the project delayed while BMC fulfilled Austin Healey manufacturing contracts. Falling MG sales revived the program, and the MG A emerged as a standalone sports car using the new B Series engine paired with a four speed gearbox and independent coil spring suspension. Offered in both coupe and roadster form, the model developed a strong following among club racers thanks to its light weight, mechanical simplicity and engaging driving character.

This car is understood to have had only two owners. It was purchased by the current owner in 1991 after having reportedly been stored in a garage since the 1960s. At that time the body was fully disassembled, restored and repainted in Monza Red, replacing the factory Chariot Red finish. The car retains its original matching engine, and several practical upgrades were completed during the refurbishment, including a conversion from generator to alternator, the fitment of an electric radiator fan to improve cooling in city traffic and the installation of a timber steering wheel. The original Bakelite steering wheel and original generator accompany the car. The car was maintained by a long term specialist until 2017, and recent work includes a blown head gasket repair and top end refresh completed in August 2024 along with a general service.

Long term garaging and modest use see the exterior presenting in respectable condition given the paint dates from 1991. The Monza Red finish remains glossy, though a handful of age related imperfections are noted, including a light scratch on the right fender, cracking in the paint on the boot lid and fading to the original side screens. The canopy and tonneau cover remain in good order. Chrome trim exhibits pitting in areas. The seller reports the car has not been involved in any accidents.

The brown leather interior shows general wear in line with age but remains tidy and complete. The seats hold their shape and the cabin retains its period appearance with no major trim losses. Light ageing is noted around the dashboard and surrounding surfaces, consistent with a long term classic. Instrumentation and controls are reported to operate as intended.

This MG A will be supplied with its original steering wheel, original generator, documentation, the recent head gasket and top end refresh receipt, available service history & number plates.
