This 1959 MG MGA Twin Cam is an Australian delivered example presented in its original Old English White over red colour combination, with extensive historical material relating to its period competition use and a comprehensive ground-up restoration completed over approximately a decade. It is powered by a 1.6 litre naturally aspirated twin-cam inline four producing 80 kW (108 hp), paired with a four-speed manual transmission driving the rear wheels. The odometer currently shows 6,483 miles* TMU, having been reset to zero when the instruments were overhauled during the restoration.

Introduced in 1958 as the high-performance derivative of the MGA, the Twin Cam featured a substantially developed 1,588 cc engine with an aluminium twin-overhead-camshaft cylinder head, twin SU carburettors and four-wheel Dunlop disc brakes. Production was limited to 2,111 examples across roadster and coupe body styles, making the Twin Cam one of the rarer and most technically distinctive MGA variants.

According to the supplied history and information attributed to the Australian Twin Cam Register, the car was delivered new into Victoria in 1959 and was subsequently prepared for production sports car competition. The supplied history records a believed association with Harry Firth and Alan Mann under Victorian registration HCP 601, although this early history has not been independently verified. It further records the car as having been raced by Geoff Bell from 1969 to 1972, including an 18.7-second standing quarter mile at the 1971 MG National Meeting. The close-ratio gearbox documented as being with the car by 1970 remains fitted. The car later moved to South Australia, where it carried registration SMF 222.

Following an extended period of limited use, a comprehensive restoration commenced under the previous owner in 2012. David May of Derby Works, with support from Crankshaft Rebuilders, rebuilt the twin-cam engine, while numerous correct components were sourced from specialist suppliers including Scarborough Faire in the United States and Brown & Gammons in the United Kingdom. The chassis, brakes, body, interior and associated mechanical systems were also extensively restored, while the instruments were overhauled by Howard Instruments and the odometer reset to zero.

The MGA was acquired by its current owner, long-time MG enthusiast Harry Hickling, in February 2021. The restoration was subsequently completed with assistance from Up The Creek Workshop in Castlemaine, including further engine work and revisions to make the suspension more suitable for road use. The rebuilt engine was first run on a dynamometer in June 2021, with a further dyno inspection completed in March 2023 following its run-in period. Since completion, the car has covered 6,483 miles* indicated on the reset odometer, including the Melbourne-to-Sydney leg of the 2022 Perth-to-Sydney historic rally, together with subsequent local drives and MG National Meetings.

The current owner describes the car as presenting well rather than being prepared to concours standard. It is accompanied by restoration and maintenance receipts together with historical material relating to its reported ownership and competition history.
