This 1957 MGA Roadster is a lovingly restored post-war sports car that was delivered new in Australia. It is powered by a naturally-aspirated 1.5-litre four-cylinder engine that produces 54kW (72hp). Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual gearbox. The odometer of this car shows 41,364 miles. Development of the MGA began in the early 1950s as a replacement of the earlier MG TF. It featured all-new design details with era-appropriate ‘ponton’-style fenders and a streamlined body.

It was a big departure from the earlier MG TF and the MGA didn’t immediately make it to production. The project was put on the backburner while the British Motor Corporation was contracted to build Austin-Healeys. However, falling sales of MGs caused a change of heart and the MGA went into production as a standalone sports car. It was fitted with a new B-Series engine coupled with a four-speed gearbox, while it featured independent suspension with coil springs at all corners. The MGA was produced in coupe or convertible body styles and it went on to compete in various motorsport events. This MGA is painted in its original shade of red and features red leather upholstery on the seats.

The car is adorned with chrome details on the outside – such as the fender-mount mirrors – while the hard-top roof is painted in black. The owner has kept this car largely stock, though it features a brake booster and a single 12-volt battery (as opposed to two 6-volts). This car is complemented by a set of 15-inch wire wheels wrapped in Olympic GT tyres. Manufactured at BMC’s Enfield (NSW) factory and delivered locally, this MGA has been restored to its current condition over the last six years. The current owner purchased the car in 2019 and set to work stripping the bodywork down to the bare metal for a respray in its original colour. It has also received a new clutch and clutch plate as well as a new exhaust and muffler.

The current owner has serviced the car himself. It has an unknown number of previous owners. Constant garaging and seldom use sees this car’s exterior condition display in excellent order. The red paintwork shows without damage or fade, while the chrome shines brightly in the sun. The black-top roof is in worse condition, with fine scratches and paint chips around the edging. There is one spot of paint bubbling near the bonnet.

The wheels present in decent condition without obvious kerb rash. Inside, this car’s red upholstery has been maintained to a good standard. The leather upholstery pulls taut over the seat cushions and no stain or scuff damage is noted on the carpeting. Light wear and tear is noted around the dashboard cowl, plus the instrumentation and gauges display normal patina. All accompanying documentation and records will be supplied with this car. As per Trading Garage Terms and Conditions, although Trading Garage has completed the following checks, bidders must satisfy themselves to the accuracy of the description and do any research they feel necessary before bidding.
