This 1951 Citroën Big 15 Roadster is a distinctive post-war French classic finished in white over a dark red interior, representing one of the more unusual open-top interpretations of the Traction Avant platform. Powered by Citroën’s 1,911cc inline four-cylinder engine paired with a manual transmission driving the front wheels, true mileage is unknown.
The “Big 15” formed part of Citroën’s Traction Avant range, a model line that was revolutionary for its time thanks to its front-wheel-drive layout, monocoque construction and independent suspension. These engineering advancements gave the Traction Avant exceptional road holding and structural rigidity compared to many contemporaries. Today, the model is appreciated for its advanced design, unmistakable silhouette and significant place in automotive history.
To the best of the seller’s knowledge, the car has had three previous owners and has been under current ownership for approximately 26 years. The owner believes the vehicle was built in Vietnam, noting features such as the pre-war style hub caps, bonnet and body width. The bonnet and hub caps are described as hand-beaten items, adding to the car’s individuality. During long-term ownership, work carried out has included replacement bushings, brake lines and a steering rack sourced from France.
Mechanically, the vehicle drives, brakes and changes gears, though it is described as needing attention. The engine, gearbox and driveshaft are noted to be noisy, and the roof mechanism is reportedly difficult to operate. Door latches require repair. While the car remains rust-free according to the seller, it is acknowledged that it requires further restoration work and general improvement.
The paint and trim present as a usable older finish, with the interior described as tired and reflective of the vehicle’s age. A heater has been installed. Included in the sale are two keys, a jack, wheel brace and spare tyre. An electric power steering unit from a Holden Barina is also supplied with the vehicle.
