This 1997 AC Cobra (KCC build) is an instantly recognisable classic car that presents in a striking colour combination. It is powered by a naturally-aspirated 350 cubic inch which has been stroked to 383 (6.0-litre) Chevrolet V8 engine which sends power to the rear wheels. This example is equipped with a 350 turbo automatic transmission with upgraded torque converter. The car shows approximately 23,415km on its odometer. The AC Cobra is the brainchild of American race car driver and engineer Carroll Shelby. It blends a European small sports car chassis with American muscle power to create a Trans-Atlantic world-beating collaboration. While English manufacturer AC Cars was renowned for its sorted sports car chassis, Carroll Shelby learned of the model’s lack of outright grunt.

Shelby teed-up a deal in which AC Cars completed painted and trimmed bodies and shipped them off to Shelby in California to be fitted with Ford’s new small-block V8 engine. It became a sports car icon thanks to its nimble handling, svelte looks, and stonking-great power. Continuation cars have become a popular way to enjoy the unique model as genuine AC Cobra values reach deep into seven-figure territory. Painted in black and featuring red stripes, this example displays like a true Cobra. It features chrome detailing around its windscreen, on its exhaust shield, and for its roll bar hoops – as was common for the time – plus the painted grille continues its bodywork stripes. Under the bonnet this example features aluminium heads and roller rocker arms to its stroked 6.0L V8.

Inside the cabin this Cobra continues the red-and-black theme with vinyl upholstery and a woodgrain steering wheel. It rides on a set of 15-inch black wheels with contrasting red knock-off hubs. These are wrapped in Cooper Cobra tyres. This Cobra replica was manufactured in 1997 and is now reportedly a three-owner vehicle. It was bought by the seller in May 2023 from HSR Customs in South Africa – a well-known AC Cobra workshop with ties to Cobra Club South Africa. Recent servicing has been performed by HSR Customs in South Africa and Harris Motors in Queensland. The last service was completed in March 2024.

The seller had side intrusion bars installed before importing the vehicle to Australia. It also has new Smith gauges which explain why the odometer reading is low – true chassis mileage is estimated at 23,451km. In terms of presentation, this Cobra shows in good order throughout. There are no known bodywork repairs – only minor respray under the front bar to rectify scrape damage. The black paintwork shows in fair condition, though it could benefit from a thorough detail. Chrome elements are polished to a shine and no obvious damage is seen on the wheels or tyres. Inside the cabin this Cobra presents in clean condition.

The vinyl upholstery pulls taut over seat frames and no tears are seen in the fabric. The woodgrain steering wheel and dash covering shows no wear and tear. Carpeting presents without scuffing, while the supplied black soft tonneau cover appears in good condition. This car will come with all accompanying documentation and accessories.
