This 1996 Ducati 748 Biposto is an Australian-delivered, two-owner sport bike that retains its original books and manuals. It is powered by a naturally-aspirated 748cc four-stroke, four-valve, V-twin engine that outputs 72kW and 75Nm. Power is sent to the rear wheel through a six-speed manual transmission. The odometer currently shows 59,995km. The Ducati 748 is the smaller-displacement alternative to the Italian manufacturer’s 916 and is near-identical. Both are designed by in-house legend Massimo Tamburini and feature the iconic Desmoquattro engine. The only differences between the two are the tyre sizes and engine capacity.

While some appreciate the 916’s extra power, the Ducati 748 features a shorter piston stroke that meant it could accelerate quicker. It also has a higher 11,500rpm rev ceiling. There were a few versions of the Ducati 748, this Biposto variant being the first. In its day, the Ducati 748 wasn’t nearly as appreciated as it should have been. Where most of the attention was drawn to big-engine models such as the 916 and 999, or even Japanese rivals such as the Honda CBR1000 or Yamaha R1, the 748 flies under the radar with a sturdy handling character and gorgeous styling. Today, they represent an affordable way into Ducati sport bike ownership.

This example is painted in classic Ducati Red and is upholstered with a two-tone black-and-red seat. Its matte bronze chrome-moly trellis frame matches the bronze stickers. There are no known aftermarket modifications. The original 17-inch wheels have been repainted black, designed to match Carl Fogarty’s specification. Manufactured by Ducati in Italy and delivered new to Australia through Port Macquarie Motor Cycles in January 1996, this Ducati 748 is a two-owner bike from new. It was purchased by the current owner, a Ducati fanatic, in 2019.

Servicing was completed by dealers over the first ten years, before moving to independents. The last service was completed in June 2023 by Blair Barrie. It is said to be in good mechanical condition. Presentation-wise, this bike remains in fair order. The red paintwork glosses nicely in the light, though it is marred by stone chips – the previous owner did not protect the bike from road damage. The front carbon-fibre elements also show with road rash and stone chip damage.

Some chips and marks are seen on the frame and various stickers and components show signs of wear. Light scuffs are seen on the black seat. All accompanying documentation will be supplied with this bike, including original manuals and service booklets. As per Trading Garage’s Terms and Conditions, although Trading Garage has completed the following checks bidders must satisfy themselves with the accuracy of the description and do any research they feel necessary before bidding. All listings are sold in Australian dollars. This bike is not currently registered.

There are no security interests registered on the PPSR against the serial number and is not recorded as written off or stolen.
