This 1996 AC Cobra (KCC build) comes from a Cobra fanatic who has owned the car alongside two other examples; this one is in brilliant condition for its age. It is powered by a 350 cubic inch (5.7-litre) Chevrolet motor which sends power to the rear wheels through an automatic gearbox. The odometer of this car currently states 13,073 miles. Little-known British outfit AC Cars manufactured well-sorted sports cars through the early 1960s, though their inline-six-cylinder engines weren’t powerful enough to ensure success on a worldwide stage. Learning of AC’s lack of a suitable engine, race driver and engineer Carroll Shelby organised to wedge one of his legendary V8 engines inside the small chassis for what became one of the most iconic sports cars of all time. The deal that followed saw AC Cars manufacture completed and painted bodies before sending them off to Los Angeles to have a Ford Windsor V8 engine fitted.

Continuation cars have become a popular way to pay tribute and enjoy the model, with outfits all over the globe creating replica kit cars. They remain an affordable way into Cobra ownership. This blue-painted AC Cobra replica with white GT stripes subscribes to the age-old formula of placing a large, powerful V8 engine inside a simple tubular frame for an undiluted driving experience. Instead of a Ford engine, this car specifies a 350 Chevrolet crate motor and uses a Jaguar rear end (as is common for the type). It’s also fitted with a TH 350 auto gearbox, ceramic-coated side pipes, and red leather interior. It rides on a set of body-coloured 15-inch Compomotive wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich/Toyo tyres.

Manufactured by the Kit Car Centre of South Africa in the mid 1990s, this Cobra has passed through the hands of several Cobra enthusiasts. It has been owned by members of the Cobra Club of South Africa before trading hands to the current owner two years ago. It now sits as part of a large car collection including several Porsches and two other AC Cobras. Servicing has been completed by private owner care, while its most recent maintenance was done at Mudgeeraba Automotive Service. The owner notes the vehicle has an issue with its fuel gauge. The exterior condition of this AC Cobra replica shows in decent order for its age.

The blue paintwork displays in complete order throughout, though elements of surface scratching and swirl marks are seen. This could be improved with a thorough detail. Stone chips are seen on the front end of the car and on the rear left wheel guard. Chrome elements could use a solid polish to rejuvenate the finish. All four wheels display without obvious kerb rash. On the inside the Cobra shows in fair order.

Seat upholstery and shape appears in good condition, though finer elements of wear and tear are seen about the interior. Dash coverings and door cards appear without scratch marks, though carpeting is beginning to fade. This car will be supplied with a soft-top cover and all accompanying documentation.
