This 1986 Alpina B10 3.5 Coupe is a rarity in Australia, particularly since it remains 100 per cent original and is one of just seven examples created in Australia. It is powered by an upgraded 3.5-litre inline-six-cylinder engine that sends 187kW/325Nm to the rear wheels. This car is fitted with a five-speed dogleg manual gearbox. The odometer currently states 94,624km. By the 1980s, BMW’s M department had a handle on creating fast sports cars based off run-of-the-mill sedans and coupes. However, Alpina took things a step further, even beyond BMW M cars, by creating bespoke sports cars with unique styling and upgraded engine internals.

The Alpina B10 is based on the E24-generation 635CSi, with special touches including changes to the head, with Mahle cast pistons and a different camshaft. In addition, the car was given Alpina’s signature wheels and tweaked Bilstein suspension to match the extra outputs. Alpinas were (and still are) a rarity in Australia, though one outfit in Sydney was officially certified to carry out builds on Alpina’s behalf. Bavarian Motorsport completed just seven examples of the B10 3.5 Coupe, making this survivor car a real delight to see on the open market. This car’s colour combination pairs classic Alpine White with a brown leather-upholstered interior. Alpina’s gold stripe package finishes off the quintessential look.

This car is wholly original and no aftermarket modifications have been introduced. It continues to ride on a set of 16-inch Alpina alloy wheels wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza tyres. Starting life after leaving the BMW factory in May 1986, this car’s history is well documented. It was complied new in Australia in August 1986 and was the first completed build of an Alpina B10 3.5 by Bavarian Motorsport. It was the workshop owner’s personal car for a time, before passing through three extra owners. It now resides as part of a prominent BMW collection in Melbourne.

The car has seen multiple magazine showcases and is well maintained to this day. The exterior condition of this rare Alpina is a highlight. Alpine White paintwork displays no undue marks or scuffs, while even the original stripe package presents undamaged. The bumpers contain no obvious dent or scuffs. All exterior trims and components display in good condition – it’s clear that this car has been well cared for. The wheels show no signs of kerb rash or scratching. Inside, this car wears its 1980s-spec interior very well.

The original Recaro sports seats have not deformed in shape or colour, while the leather displays no scratches or major creasing. The carpets are clean of scuff damage and no wear or tear is noted on the central stack. This car retains its original radio. Some minor dash cracks are noted beneath the windscreen, as expected for BMWs of this vintage. All accompanying documentation and history files will be provided with this sale.
