This 1985 HDT VK SS Group A “Blue Meanie” is a fully-documented and recently resprayed Aussie icon. Under its bonnet sits a naturally-aspirated 4.9-litre V8 engine that produces 196kW (263hp). This power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual gearbox. The odometer of this car currently displays 101,068km. The legendary Holden Dealer Team is arguably one of the most famous Australian racing teams and the HDT VK SS Group A is likely its most iconic car. Peter Brock’s car-building prowess was on song with the VK SS, which has since become a highly collectible muscle car. It’s nicknamed “Blue Meanie” for the distinctive blue paint shared with HDT’s principal sponsor, Mobil 1.

It was specially designed as a homologation edition in order for HDT to go racing in Group A motorsport in Australia. Only 502 examples were made. The car is most notable for its large rear spoiler, front air dam, HDT sticker kit, and aggressive front grille. Other tweaks include a double-row timing chain, with stronger conrods and suspension mounts. Clean examples of the VK SS Group A are difficult to find on the open market and are widely tipped to further appreciate in value in the future. All VK SS Group As were painted in the “Mobil 1” blue and featured a light blue interior with Scheel front seats and Momo steering wheel and gear knob. Most cars were fitted with a four-speed manual transmission, including this one.

This car features no aftermarket modifications – it is original as it left the factory. It continues to ride on a set of 16-inch HDT white wheels wrapped in Bridgestone Potenza tyres. This example was built by Holden and finished at HDT’s factory in Port Melbourne in July 1985. It is numbered 171 of 502 total examples. The current owner purchased the vehicle in April 2023 and recently had it serviced two months ago. The starter motor and A/C compressor were replaced at this time. According to the seller, the car was resprayed 3-4 years ago.

Externally, this VK SS Group A appears in brilliant condition throughout. Blue paintwork reflects nicely in the light and no overt swirl marks are seen in the finish. Exterior plastics appear in fair order without obvious fade. The factory stickers and decals show no signs of lifting or wear and the engine bay appears in clean order. All four wheels show without noticeable kerb rash damage or paint deterioration. Interior-wise, this car appears in clean order. The Scheel seats retain a great shape with thick bolsters and the cloth fabric contains no stains or tears.

Some parts of the seat inserts could do with an interior detail due to subtle discolouration. Surface rust can be seen around the gear stick and the steering wheel shows obvious wear. The headlining shows no undue wear and tear. All accompanying documentation and manuals will be supplied with this sale, in addition to its HDT171 number plates and HDT key ring.
