This 1981 Toyota LandCruiser HJ47 is a well-preserved, largely original example of Toyota’s long-wheelbase 40 Series, a model renowned for its durability and mechanical simplicity. Finished in yellow, it shows 174,369 kilometres and is powered by the 4.0 litre naturally aspirated diesel engine paired with a four-speed manual transmission. One of the later HJ47 variants, it represents a highly usable and increasingly collectible classic LandCruiser configuration.
The HJ47 sits among the most usable variants of the classic LandCruiser range, combining the longer tray-back configuration with Toyota’s dependable diesel drivetrain. Known for their mechanical robustness and straightforward construction, these vehicles were built to work hard in remote conditions and have since become increasingly collectible, particularly in well-preserved, largely original examples.
This example is currently with its second registered owner, who has owned the vehicle for approximately 10 years. During that time, it has travelled around 1,000 kilometres, suggesting very limited use under current ownership.
Servicing has been carried out by the owner, with no original service books present. No major mechanical issues are reported.
Mechanically, the vehicle is described as being in excellent condition, with no known faults. The seller notes that it drives exceptionally well for its age. Externally, the LandCruiser presents extremely well. A majority of the factory paint is original, with the bonnet and guards having been repainted at some point. There are no dents, and the overall presentation remains very strong for a vehicle of this age.
Inside, the cabin remains simple and functional, with all systems reported to be in working order. As expected of a 40 Series, the vehicle is largely mechanical in nature, with minimal electrical complexity. Modifications are limited. The petrol flap has been welded closed for a cleaner appearance to accommodate the reserve tank, and a sunroof was fitted prior to the current ownership. There is no known accident history.
The vehicle is supplied with original books and lights, along with the original jack and tool kit. One key is included. Spare air conditioning pulleys are present but will be removed prior to sale.
As per Trading Garage Terms and Conditions, although Trading Garage has completed the following checks, bidders must satisfy themselves to the accuracy of the description and do any research they feel necessary before bidding. All listings are sold in Australian dollars. A PPSR search has been conducted and confirms the vehicle has not been recorded as written off or stolen and no security interests are recorded.
