This 1972 Daimler Sovereign is a rare Australian-delivered luxury sedan finished in a desirable grey-over-red colour scheme. It is powered by a naturally-aspirated 4.2-litre inline-six-cylinder engine that outputs 183kW (245hp) to the rear wheels. The transmission in this car is a three-speed automatic. The odometer of this car currently states 96,174km. The first Daimler Sovereign was a badge-engineered version of the Jaguar 420 saloon, itself based on the earlier Jaguar S-Type. Designed as a no-holds-barred compact sporting saloon while retaining opulent luxury, the Sovereign/420 earned a reputation for steadfast build quality and impressive cabin materials. Subsequent Daimler Sovereigns were based on the Jaguar XJ6, including this Series I example, which is powered by the bigger 4.

2-litre Jaguar XK engine. Externally there is no distinguishing between the Jaguar XJ6 Series I and the Daimler Sovereign – only badging and a fluted grille for the Daimler. There were subtle trim and inlay tweaks inside the cabin. While Jaguar had more of a racy reputation at the time, Daimler buyers were more distinguished and appreciated the luxurious aspects of the car. These days, Daimler Sovereigns are difficult to find on the open market, making this a rare opporunity. Painted externally in Warwick Grey and upholstered with a red leather interior, this Daimler has a striking presence. External trim elements are chrome-plated, while the interior shows woodgrain inserts around the dash.

There are no notable modifications since new, according to the seller. It rides on a set of 15-inch chrome-capped wheels wrapped in Kenda Radial tyres. Manufactured by Jaguar in Coventry, England and badged as a Daimler, this car entered Australia in April 1971 and was delivered in NSW. The current owners estimate the car to have had 4-5 owners overall, and purchased the vehicle themselves in 2011. Since then it has been used sparingly and locally around Queensland. Recent servicing has been completed by Classic and Prestige Auto Services in Geeing, QLD. The car also underwent a respray and reupholster in 2012 by Mastertouch Automotive in Marrickville, NSW.

The car is said to run in good condition. On the outside there are no marks of dent damage or bodywork mismatches. The grey paintwork presents in good condition and reflects light nicely. Elements of light stone chipping are noted around the front end and the chrome trim could use a polish. Wheels present in largely good order, though rim damage is seen around the outer edges. Inside the cabin this car presents in brilliant condition for its age and mileage. The reupholstered seats hold a good shape without sagging, and a rich, red colour is seen in the leather.

The dash could use some touch-ups due to leather cracking and the boot may need to be re-carpeted, according to the seller. Instrumentation and switchgear show some light weathering, as expected with age. The carpeting shows in fantastic condition. This car will come with original sales manuals and documentation.
