This 1970 MGB GT is a tidily-presented British classic that has been treated to useful aftermarket modifications. Power is drawn from a naturally-aspirated 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine that produces 71kW (95hp). Drive is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual transmission with overdrive function. The odometer currently displays 25,895 miles. Conjure up an image of a British sports car and it’s likely that the MGB comes to mind. The model achieved commercial success all around the world over an 18-year production run and has clinched the title of being the world’s best-selling sports car. It’s easy to see why.

The MGB is a gorgeous classic that offers up a fun driving experience and its simple mechanics mean that anyone can work on it. The MGB GT is the Pininfarina-designed hard-top version which pairs a fixed roof with a hatchback rear end. It’s a model appreciated for its sturdy driving characteristics and impressive roadholding due to the increased torsional rigidity. However, it’s also known as the practical version thanks to the enclosed body and dedicated storage space. The two extra rear seats help too. Weekends away are a breeze in the MGB GT – especially if they’re towards good driving roads. Painted in red on the exterior and upholstered with black vinyl inside the cabin, this MGB GT presents a desirable colour combination.

The bodywork is highlighted by chrome trim, while the cabin features woodgrain panelling and white piping for the vinyl seats. The car has been fitted with Pininfarina badges for the exterior, air cleaners for the twin carburettors, Paddy Hopkirk accelerator pedals, a Kenlowe cooling fan, and extra switchgear inside the cabin. It rides on a set of 14-inch MG wire wheels that are covered in Maxxis tyres. This MG was manufactured in England. It was purchased by the current owner out of a deceased estate, meaning very little accompanying history is shared with the car. The owner has had the brakes rebuilt, serviced the distributor and replaced the coil – all in the last 12 months. It reportedly drives well with no known mechanical issues.

The external presentation of this car is a very good, especially for its age. The red paintwork glistens in the sun without obvious scratches and dent damage, while the chrome is polished to a shine. The car has been resprayed at some point in the past, but a polish and detail would bring out the best in the finish. No obvious points of stone chipping are noted on the front end. Light tarnishing can be seen on the wheels, this could be improved with polishing. Inside, this MGB GT presents well. The vinyl seats retain a good shape and there are no tears or scuffs in the trim.

The wood panelling around the steering wheel and door panels still shows a glossy lacquer. There are some messy electrics around the driver’s and passenger’s footwell, but the carpeting appears in-tact. No wear and tear is identified on the headlining. All accompanying documentation will be supplied with this car.
