This 1967 Morris Mini Cooper S is an ex-rally car that has had plenty of money poured into its upkeep and modifications. It is powered by a naturally-aspirated 1380cc (1.38-litre) four-cylinder engine that sends power to the front wheels. This car features a close-ratio manual gearbox with factory straight-cut gears. The odometer on this car currently shows 30,899 miles*. Though most people know the Mini as affordable and comfortable transport, it’s also well known for carving up the Monte Carlo Rally in the 1950s and 1960s. Even in Australia, it went on to send shivers up the spines of drivers with far more powerful race cars.

The Mini’s ability to compete on the world’s motorsport stages was thanks to its revolutionary design in which all four wheels were pushed to the corners of the car. Not only did this design improve interior space, but it gave the little hatchback phenomenal road-holding and handling. Combined with its lightweight chassis and plucky engine that loves to rev, driving an early Mini Cooper S is a pure delight. Nimble, fast, and fun, the Mini Cooper’s reputation stands to this day as one of the all-time great hot hatchbacks. Finished in red with a black vinyl interior, this Morris Mini Cooper S is a classic. It features a white-painted roof, overfenders for the wheels, and a host of modifications to turn it into a race car.

It features London Mini Spares roller rockers, a toothed rubber timing belt, ultra-light billet steel flywheel, a differential with 4:11 ratio, fully-adjustable suspension, rose-jointed lower arms, and a CAMS-legal steel roll cage fitted. It rides on a set of 10-inch wheels wrapped in Dunlop tyres. The history on this Mini Cooper S is patchy. According to previous owners, it was built into a rally-spec vehicle throughout the 1970s and it has participated in various motorsport since. It has been owned by the seller for the last two years. It runs a bored-out 1380cc engine with a steel centre main cap and a Kent fast rod cam.

The head has large valves and very good port shapes, according to a previous owner. The only maintenance information provided to Trading Garage states that this car was serviced at a Mini specialist in Ermington, NSW. Exterior-wise, this Mini’s red paintwork presents in good condition with no obvious points of rust or damage. The panels appear with a good shine in the light, though finer points of paint damage are seen around the hinges, door edges, side sills, and near the rear-left tail-light. The chrome around the grille and side mirrors could use with a polish to bring it up to a shine. All four wheels present in fair condition with no major marks of damage.

Inside, this Mini appears in fair condition. The black vinyl seats appear without stains or scuffs and continue to hold a good shape. Carpeting and floor mats show no damage. The headlining is coming loose in certain areas around the window frames. The steering wheel face is ageing and a tear can be seen in the driver’s side door trim. A scuff is shown on the passenger side door jamb.
