This 1966 Austin-Healey 3000 Mk III BJ8 is an ex-Gosford Classic Car Museum display item and presents in brilliant order with plenty of previous restorative work. Under its bonnet sits a naturally-aspirated 2.9-litre inline-six-cylinder engine which puts out 111kW (150hp) to the rear wheels. It features a four-speed manual gearbox with electric overdrive on the third and fourth gears. The odometer currently displays 3,352km after a gauge conversion, though actual mileage is at least 66,959 miles. The Austin-Healey 3000 epitomises the British sports car – engaging to drive, handsome to look at, and matched by a beautiful straight-six engine noise. It followed the earlier Austin-Healey 100-6 by introducing a large displacement engine and was fitted with bigger brakes to reign in speed.

Over an eight-year production run the model moved progressively from an open-top sports coupe to a sporty roadster design. It was a popular chassis for motorsports and competes in several worldwide racing categories even today. The popular BJ8 variant made its debut in 1964 with increased power output from its engine and it is arguably the most collectible of all Austin-Healey 3000 specifications. This is one of the later builds, leaving the factory before Austin-Healey was dissolved after its merger with Leyland and Rover. This car is painted in green on the outside and is paired with a beige trim inside its cabin. The exterior is highlighted by requisite chrome trim, while the cabin features woodgrain panel inserts.

The beige soft-top roof matches the interior colour. No obvious modifications have been made to this car, it has been kept as original as possible. It runs on a set of 15-inch wire wheels wrapped in Maxxis tyres. Manufactured in the United Kingdom and previously a part of the Gosford Classic Car Museum, this model has been well cared for over its lifetime. The current owner has traced ownership back through at least three previous owners and has owned it since 2017 himself. It is understood to have been mechanically restored around 30 years ago.

In 2014 the vehicle’s odometer was converted from miles to kilometres – the mileage was 66,959 miles at this time. The car’s exterior presentation is great, especially given its age. Green paintwork shows no obvious fade, though it could benefit from a polish and detail. Its chrome trim shines in the sun. Some marks of oxidisation are noted around the side mirrors and light stone chips surround the front grille, as expected with age. The soft-top roof appears in good condition.

All four wheels present without obvious damage, though subtle tarnishing is seen. No major marks of wear and tear are noted inside the cabin. The beige trim presents without scuffs and tears, while no stains are seen in the fabric. Hairline cracks are found in the woodgrain panels, while light scratches are shown on the switchgear. The door panels and floor mats show minimal scuffs or stains. The glovebox does not open due to a broken lock.
