This 1965 MGB Roadster is an honest example of an iconic British sports car, complete with spare parts and some tidy modifications. It is powered by a naturally-aspirated 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine that develops 71kW/150Nm. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed manual gearbox (with overdrive). The odometer currently displays 22,203 miles, though this isn’t warranted. The MGB is world renowned for being an unfussy sports car – good looks, a cracking engine, and an enjoyable driving character. It’s also favoured for its practicality and mechanical simplicity. Not only is it a sports car that can be used everyday, but enthusiasts can perform mechanical repairs or maintenance themselves without getting in too deep.

MG built the car in England (as well as complete knock-down kits assembled in Australia) and shipped it throughout the world, finding sales success in Europe and America. It was one of the longest-running production sports cars of all time and rivalled the likes of the Chevrolet Corvette and Ford Mustang. It was produced in several body styles and configurations, but none are more recognisable than the classic roadster shape. MGBs continue to represent fantastic value and are a great way into vintage sports car ownership. Finished in the classic MGB colourway of red exterior paint over a black interior, this example can be mistaken for nothing else. There are various points of chrome to highlight the exterior, woodgrain veneer trim inside the cabin, and a black soft-top roof covers the interior. The car has been upgraded with a five-bearing crankshaft, Axis speakers, a JVC CD stereo with USB and auxiliary input, and a rear roll bar with head rests.

It rides on a set of 14-inch chrome wire wheels wrapped in Blue Streak Touring tyres. This car has been with the current owner for 23 years. It has been garaged under a dust cover since 1999 according to the seller. Periodic maintenance and spare parts have been fitted; the last service was performed by C&T Automotive in December 2022. This included a new coil being fitted. The car has been converted from twin 6-volt battery power to just one 12-volt battery. The seller is unaware of any mechanical faults, though the courtesy light on the passenger side is non-functioning.

The car’s last registration test was conducted in August 2024. Visually, this car presents in good condition for its age. The red paintwork is complete, though points of scuffing and scratching are seen. This is most obvious around the door edges and mirrors. The paint has lost some lustre and could do with a thorough polish. Chrome elements present with a shine. The bonnet has been resprayed, and the boot has been replaced due to rust.

The soft-top roof appears without obvious scuffs. All wire wheels have been re-chromed and appear in good order. Internally, this MGB has been kept in good order. The black vinyl upholstery holds taut over the seat cushions and no obvious scuffing or scratches are noted. The MG floor mats appear in good condition; likewise its carpeting appears unmarked. Signs of wear and tear are noted around vents and instrumentation, though this is commensurate with the car’s age. The door panels and dashboard appear in good condition.

This car will come with all accompanying documents and receipts, plus a jack, an MG car cover, a spare wheel (no tyre), tonneau cover, a knock-off hammer, and a workshop manual. As per Trading Garage Terms and Conditions, although Trading Garage has completed the following checks, bidders must satisfy themselves to the accuracy of the description and do any research they feel necessary before bidding. All listings are sold in Australian dollars. This car is registered in NSW until 2/8/25. There are no security interests registered on the PPSR against the serial number and it is not recorded as written off or stolen.
