This 1958 Bentley S1 Saloon is a stately limousine that boasts original documentation, no modifications, and a recent carburettor rebuild. It is powered by a naturally-aspirated 4.9-litre inline-six-cylinder engine that produces 128kW (175hp). Power is routed through a four-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels. The odometer of this car states 10,046 miles. The Bentley S1 Saloon first went on sale in 1955 as a luxury limousine and was closely related to the Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud. However, while both cars appear similar, the Bentley was reserved for the drivers, rather than those who preferred to be driven. The Bentley S1 was a physically larger car than its forebears, such as the R type, and was constructed of pressed steel and aluminium panels.

Over the R type, the Bentley S1 featured softer suspension, lighter steering, a bigger engine, and a four-speed automatic gearbox as standard. Buyers could opt for more unique bodywork through the Mulliner coachbuilders, though most cars were four-door saloons with five or six seats. Inside, the Bentley S1’s cabin was dominated by timber and leather with a big, comfortable bench seat featuring in the first row. Today, Bentley S1s are appreciated for their stately styling and old-world heritage. Painted in white, this Bentley S1 Saloon is the archetypal limousine car. It features a red leather interior with woodgrain trim inside the cabin, while the exterior is adorned with chrome highlighting. The owner states that this example is in original condition and shows no aftermarket additions.

It rides on a set of 15-inch chrome-capped wheels that are wrapped in Candy Classic tyres. Unfortunately, very little is known about this Bentley S1 Saloon’s history. The current owner purchased the car from Barrett Jackson Auctions in 2010 out of Van Nuys, California. In the years since it was intended to be used as a wedding car, though in reality it has hardly been used. Maintenance items have been tended to, according to the owner, and the carburettor was fully rebuilt recently. It also had extensive engine work carried out addressing a coolant issue. Visually, this Bentley presents in decent condition from afar.

The white paintwork appears glossy in the light and there is no obvious panel damage. However, closer inspection reveals significant patina and tarnishing on areas such as the chrome bumpers, grille, and coachlines. Surface rust can be seen on the rear bumpers, around the badging, and on the front grille. The owner notes a small paint chip on the driver’s-side front guard. All four wheels show oxidation and wear, and require refurbishment. Inside, the original interior shows in average condition. The red leather upholstery on the front bench appears without tears or scratches, though light creases marks and deformation is noted.

The second row seats show some wear and tear. Some colour fade is seen on the door panels and seat backs. Scrappy carpeting can be seen on the lower portions of the door panels. Parts of the headlining are beginning to sag, and the carpets show significant wear. This car will come with the original handbook. As per Trading Garage Terms and Conditions, although Trading Garage has completed the following checks, bidders must satisfy themselves to the accuracy of the description and do any research they feel necessary before bidding.
