This 1928 Ford Roadster Hot Rod is a one-of-a-kind build which features a custom-designed chassis and is finished to an extremely-high standard overall. Power is supplied by a naturally-aspirated 351 cubic-inch (5.8-litre) Cleveland V8 engine which feeds the rear wheels through a heavy duty C10 automatic transmission. The car has only travelled 414 miles since built, according to the owner. Hot rodding is an automotive subculture that first came about as a means to an end. Throughout the Prohibition era bootleggers needed to enhance the performance of their cars in order to transport illegal liquor and outrun police. Though all kinds of American vehicle makes were modified – including Chevrolets and Pontiacs – think of a hot rod today and it’s likely that a Ford model comes to mind.

Nowadays, the practice is appreciated at car shows and in hot rodding circles for the unique looks and customised nature of each build. Hot rods are individually designed by their owners and builders and can feature parts and components from any number of car makers. Most hot rods feature complete engine swaps to newer and more powerful motors, but engine enhancement can go far beyond including supercharging, turbocharging, and stroking-out the engine block. Even 100 years on, the hot rod scene continues strong today. This 1928 Ford Roadster features cream-painted exterior bodywork with burgundy red accents, as well as red upholstery inside the cabin. Both the interior and exterior feature chrome trim and vinyl stickering (which can be easily removed).

Its extensive list of mods includes a 9-inch diff, LSD, disc brakes, 4-inch dropped front axle, Pro-Link four-bar rear axle, fixed roof, stainless steel exhaust with Magnaflow muffler, Retro Sounds 600w/400w amps, stainless steel fuel tank, and a functioning boot. It rides on a set of 15-inch wire wheels with Ford 32 hub caps. It runs on Hankook Optimo tyres. Designed and built by Vintage Rod and Custom in Western Australia, this hot rod is used sparingly and has been well preserved by its current owner. The car has been continually serviced by Vintage Rod and Custom, while it has appeared in magazines and shows frequently. Most notably, it was featured in Cruzin Magazine (Feb 2017) and won Top Roadster at the WA State Title Show in 2016.

The exterior presentation of this 1928 Ford is kept to a very high standard. There are no paint imperfections in the cream finish, while red detailing aspects and stickers are unbroken. Burgundy-painted undercarriage parts and chrome-plated exterior detailing presents in good condition. There are no tears or stains on the red roof, while the wheel arches contain no stone chips. All four wheels present perfectly without kerb rash or damage. Inside the cabin the interior is basic but it’s completed to a high standard.

The dash contains no chips or marks and seat upholstery pulls taut over the cushion. Red velvet roof detailing and burgundy seat belts present in near-new order. Very minor scuffing is seen around the toggle controls and steering wheel centre. All accompanying documentation and receipts will be supplied with this car. As per Trading Garage’s Terms and Conditions, although Trading Garage have completed the following checks, bidders must satisfy themselves to the accuracy of the description and do any research, they feel necessary before bidding.
