1965 Piaggio Vespa Super 150
This 1965 Piaggio Vespa Super 150 is a genuine Italian-built classic scooter which turns heads and runs in great condition. It is powered by a 150cc engine which sends 4.1kW (5.7hp) to the rear wheel. This example currently shows 484km on its odometer.
The Vespa came about following the end of World War II, as Italian factories pivoted from aircraft supply to transportation. While much of Italy’s roads were a mess due to the widespread bombing, Enrico Piaggio’s Vespa was a viable form of modern and affordable transport. First arriving on scene in 1944, the Vespa was immediately popular for its low cost, simplicity, and unique design. Years later, versions such as this Vespa Super 150 would come along sporting sharp new styling and enhancements to the brakes and wheels. These days they are appreciated as comfortable cruisers, featuring iconic retro styling.
This Vespa is finished in classic red with red-checked upholstery. It comes adorned in graphics, badges, and styling referencing The Who and Mod culture. Chrome detailing and lights can be seen at the front, while Mod targets are seen surrounding the seat.
Upon being purchased from Kollector Cars & Coffee in Sydney in Jan 2019, this car was sent to Moolap Motorcycle in Geelong, Victoria for roadworthy works. The owner notes it runs and rides very well, having been recently maintained by Scooterama in Fitzroy, Victoria.
The body condition of this Vespa is described as, and looks, in good overall condition. The red paintwork is complete and features minimal scratching, while the front leg shield has fared well over time. Some of the chrome detailing has taken scraping and shows various signs of damage. The bike could use a solid polish and detail overall, to bring out the best in the bodywork and chrome detailing.
Seat upholstery and the handles show relatively little signs of wear and tear. The whitewall tyres show a good amount of tread remaining. This scooter will be sold with a 1960s fishtail parka to complete the Mod look.
